Quick question on braided fuel lines

  1. #1
    Hi

Just got a quick question if anyone could help it's all confusing me

There are two main types of braided hose if I'm correct, some stuff is cheaper and the other is teflon lined and non permeable (so the car doesn't stink of petrol) - also known as AN rating

The stuff I'm looking at is AN -6 which is 8mm diam and should do the job. I found this auction although it doesn't mention AN ratings it says it's teflon lined

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stainless-...item2a1e392106

Is it the same as lets say this or not as good?

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AN6-AN-6-S...item2a26c2793c

Even if I bought it chances are I wouldn't know how to tell the difference. I've looked over both auctions and although it doesn't mention the phrase AN -6 all of the properties and description are pretty much the same but the first link is a lot cheaper.

AN is the pipe/fitting size - it's not related to whether it's ptfe lined or not. That's probably where you're confused AN stands for "Army/Navy". with sizes set out by the Aerospace industry.

Awesome guys thanks for the help I spoke to torques and they said an is the only non permeable line so probably getting it a bit mixed up. Will measure it up tomorrow hopefully 6m should do both lines

ptfe/teflon is the only way to go otherwise your car stinks every morning lol

if you ask torques nicely they will cut lines to length and fit the fittings ( they wont tighten them fully as legally not allowed ) PTFE hose is a bitch to fit the fittings on LOL

best parts guys ever at torques

I do have to ask why you're going braided lines though. Any reason?

Yeah heard countless recommendations about their customer service. That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid so will definitely get that.

Ross, the shell has had all the holes welded off for the fuel system and must have been completely relocated into the car. Also got a Jenvey fuel rail. All of the lengths and the angles would be a pain / messy to try and tidy up so just getting new ones with the correct fittings and lengths would be less of a headache.

Also got a couple of AN-6 filters off a friend, again would be a PITA to try and get them sealed onto oem lines so may as well just go for a full braided system and do it properly.

From a performance view, it won't do anything though.

Oh and it's fully stripped out, so would like to be able to route them myself.

that's fair enough I've reverted back to standard lines - they're adequate (performance wise) for anything we're likely to ask of them that's the angle I was coming from

I'm getting my SD cage fitting bits welded in soon, the passenger side hoop mount is right where the fuel lines are, I can just move them over?

Yeah. I ran my braided lines down the same route the standard lines run (but inside the car over the rear seat bit, rather than under like standard obviously).

    Edit: not the best pic:
