16v 'bangs'

  1. #1
Something ive always wondered... every 106 GTI or VTS (16v engine) i've come across bangs when changing gear (with exhaust system obv!) whats the reason behind this? now this isnt no chavvy WHY DONT MAI VTR BANG LAIK VTS I'm just curious as i dont think I've ever seen a VTR do the same thing! Is this to do with the 16v system or what? like i said, just curious! think its gotta be one of the VTS/GTi's best traits!

    THis is an example -

    Because 16v.

    Bcozracecar.

Nah seriously is that the reason? Always been curious

    Because16v dude.

8v can not produce a wet fart let alone a bang
  5. #5
    Depends on the 8v! haha

Pmsl! Now that i dont find hard to believe

Seems all the 16v's do it! 16v noise in car though.. epic!

Induction kit, Straight through exhaust and 421 manifold, bang away fella lol

just stripped all of the back of my saxo out (seats, sound deadening) and with the decat saxsport every time i changed gear i jizzed haha
  9. #9
    I didn't hear any bang?
  10. #10
Bang/pop whatever you want to call it when he changes gear, they do it everytime if your giving it the beans, stealthdog - You can see i have all that from my signature dude

    Its down to the fueling
There is a moment where the throttle sucks air but the ecu/injectors havent responded
At high rpm this causes a bang through a moment of lean running

Same happens if you get up to 5k+ and as the car runs down tap the throttle itll bang

I thought it would be the other way round unignited fuel suddenly igniting then bang, but i thought it would be fueling due to the 16v system, and what do you mean? take to 5k dip clutch and blip throttle, or keep clutch engaged and lightly tap or what? I've heard about Saxos banging from blipping the throttle, never tried it mind, my old car used to bang on overrun/changing gear but that was a 16v not an 8v
  13. #13
    Clutch engaged just tap
It momentarily allows in air and the ecu doesnt have chance to respond with fuel

My vtr banged with a pugsport
  14. #14
Oh right gotcha, tap so the car doesnt jerk too much i guess haha! I've got a Saxsport on my VTR so basically the same thing, decatted too.. well, it will be, the cars half done on axle stands but come down with the lurgy so i'll sort that when my mega dose of manflu fades

my furio bangs so its not just 16vs HOWEVER it does over fuel a little bit so that might be why

i'll have 8 more valves very shortly anyways so wont bother me
  16. #16
My vtr pops quite a bit, wouldn't say it bangs though.

Oh yeah granted its not just the 16v's all cars run differently! but it seems every VTS/16v I've come across (with exhaust system/decat obv) they bang on the gear change regardless if the exhaust is supersprint/magnex/sportex/saxsport etc, and ooooh lucky for some fella!

If you really want proper bangs

    Get an omex limiter/launch controll
    They make rather good bangs

when warmed up by car pops all the time. 4 inch peco backbox ftw

Ive had some goodens going up gear and some loud ones going down gears *crackle, pop etc.

Its good on a hoon but if you're pottering about the town its abit embrassing. slowing down to a junction, down a gear *bang braap... how awkward

mt quicky, well when it was a quicky popped and banged like fuck!!
letting off from the throttle from 5k+ and just a slight tap of throttle let off not pops but seriously loud bangs, that just echoed everywhere!

    sounded awesome

Prickle i know what you mean good when you want it to happen haha and haha sweet ali

a few reasons ,mian one is dia of exhaust and unburnt fuel which self ignites in the ex --the cat would stop this as would a std type silencer system--the baffles in std system stop this hapening
std is ecu well over rich at full throttle as it is not lambda controlled at full throttle ,so any over richness --which all cars have as std ,will leave unburnt fuel in ex --add some more air as you close the throttle(ecu has cut fuel -but engine is still eating air) momentatarily and the mixture goes leaner in the ex to a point where the heat+ unburnt fuel is just right to make a spontaneous combustion -- eg a little fuel /air bomb

I loved it when changing gear and bang! piper seems to be the best for this.

2" Saxsport is the best ive found for it so far!
