Hi all have a vtr with a vts engine with stage 3 newman cam throttle bodies using omex 600 the engine is in need of a rebuild looking at goimg down the high comp route lookin for 200hp and have read that 9000 rpm is possible with the right cams and so on what sort of things have to be done to achieve this and are the boxes good for that sort of bhp and rpm ime guessing not so wondering what has to be done thanks

You'll be looking at high comp pistons, arp bolts, ph5 cams or similer, solid lifters, at a guess new valve springs and to achieve around 200bhp you'll need some head work done and you might see a reliable 200bhp

Gearbox clutch wise I'd stick to what you have until something goes, clutch wise I would've thought a OEM valeo would be up to the job

A 200bhp n/a engine is unlikly to pass the mot! Probably also be very peaky!

    Gearbox wise go be4

200hp is achieveable yes, are you saying you want it at 9,000rpm or asking if it needs to be that high?

Ive been looking at a similar spec to this for my own in the future, this is still on hydro followers:

9000 is achieveable but weather its neceserry for 200hp i dont thin it is. Look at Jpsaxo's engine for proof of that.

dont see the fascination with massive rpms.. want to make power at lowest rpms.. higher rpms just mean more likely to fatigue and throw something through something else lol

Pretty much what blackie said, you want to keep peak power within a reasonable rpm. Thats were your money comes into play and your choice of engine builder.

Totally agree, would not expect a 200bhp+ engine on hyrdo lifters.

What do you want to use the engine for? If you just want high bhp then turbo/supercharged is the best route but gearbox etc will need upgrading so not cheap

Again thanks for all the replys the car is a weekend car and will be going on track days asoon as it is done as for the 9000 rpm dident want it dident know if 200 bhp was possible without going that high and dident really want to turbo supercharge it as any 1 can throw turbo on get good gains and be done ime not against boost just not for me on this car it has surprised a few things with just bodies and cammed just looking to get that bit more from it as the engine has got to be rebuilt anyway
