Fitting uprated fuel pump

  1. #1
In the process of putting my walbro 225 fuel pump in the casing. Noticed that the OE fuel pump is thicker so the uprated one is loose in the casing (this may not be so much of a problem?), And the filter type thing that attaches to the bottom of the pump inside the casing is too big as the walbro hole for this is smaller.

    What should i do?

I have one, and the bottom of the original casing has simply been cut off to allow the different filter to fit.

However mine was pretty tight fit in the casing and its a walbro 255

I put rubber o rings around mine allowing me to use the standard intank swirl pot. Others (as above) cut it off completely, just using the top part of the standard swirl pot for it's fittings etc.

So you put o rings around the pump so the small filter fit?

I put o rings around the pump so it doesn't rattle around in the standard round hole the standard pump fits in. I then adapted the standard filter and disregarded the filter that attaches to the bottom of the new 255 pump. If that makes sense!

Ok well the pump ive got is the one i bought from you ages ago. So how did you get the old filter to fit the new pump? Could maybe knock up a little plastic fitting to fit between the 2 so the filter fits nicely onto the pump, only way i can think of doing it.

Which pump did you buy? I had two - the intank 255 or the external 044?

Have a look at an idea of fitting here:

Ive noticed some walbros have different filter ends and have a bigger hole at the bottom for the filter? Or are some of the ones not a genuine part or maybe a newer model?

Just stuck on what to do to the filter? Cant find just the filter for the walbro forsale on its own.

Lots of fakes about and there is a few models of 255 I think

Only real way to tell a fake is open it up, real ones have metal gears, fakes have plastic gears

May just buy this instead of trying to mess about with the standard filter?

    EDIT -

Just made one now, very tight fit so i can get that put back together and fitted back into the car.
