Clearance: Satchell Lower Brace vs GMC 4-1

  1. #1
    Hey Guys,

does anyone combines the satchell lower brace with the GMC 4-1 manifold, a specially on ja slammed car? (kind of 90mm lowering)

Some Pics would be great to see if the Brace is higher then the big Collector of the Manifold (good ) or conversely (bad )

90mm of lowering? And you want a lower brace?
    WHY?

Its just the question of producibility. OMP is too low satchell looks better.

sure its low but, why dont have a stiff car .
  4. #4
    90mm sounds a bit daft!
  5. #5
Do you want to constantly smash it off the road because thats what you will do.
  6. #6
Got any links to the lower brace?
  7. #7
    after a quicksearch lol

You do realise that your car is 'stiff' probably due to having zero suspension travel meaning your dampers are bottoming out. If you want the car to handle remotely decent then I think you need to re-think your setup. You'll be able to fit the lower brace then too

If you are 90mm down at the front mate you will constantly hit the lower brace of the floor. If you want one raise it up a few mm lol

im down 60mm and i wouldnt even think about contemplating a lower brace

Same, I struggle as is, my downppipe catches all sorts
  12. #12
I'm down 50 and will probably get a lower brace, just go slow over bumps etc.
Wouldn't have one if I was lower.
  13. #13
warm up the exhaust and make a dint to miss the brace
I presume you have up rated engine mtgs --a full set!!
cos otherwise the engine will move about a lot and mkae the problem worse
  14. #14
I'm 50mm down, with a 3" downpipe and exhaust, and it clears my satchell lower brace. Just. I sure as hell wouldn't want to be lower with one though.
  15. #15
I'm down around -40mm with a 3" exhaust and catch the floor sometimes, I wouldn't think a lower brace.

Was down -60mm before and use to smash my lower brace into floor a lot, it was so bad I had to straighten the brace to remove it.

EDIT: ^^OMP lower brace at -60mm

The satchel brace doesn't sit anywhere near as low as an OMP or similar though.

your exhaust must be really close to the road Ross as it goes under the sump. Mines only about 2" max tbh, I've put a bit of a flat spot on it already, not dented, just ground flat by concrete/tarmac
  18. #18
Where can i purchase one of them lower braces from?
  19. #19
I was about to ask myself I kind like them! and im only going 40mm down too!

It would look awesome in this Purple [

Time will tell lee lol. We'll see how much of a pain it is. I really don't want to raise the car any, so a downpipe redesign might be in order. Flatter perhaps. Or even a modified sump. There's options still!

prickle link me to the the link where that purple is from please.

my saxo's down 90mm and there's only like 2-3 inches MAX of ground clearance

fitting one of them braces would probably reduce the ground clearance to an inch, if that lol

+1 on the being stiff because its bottoming out. It takes alot of work to sort out bottoming out issues and actually have some suspension travel

  24. #24
    mexican air suspension system?
then you can alter height to suit and make it jump
    LOL

    No clearance issues

However, and most unusual for something from Mr Satchell, the fittings were miles out...

Could be a twisted chassis aswel

    On Colins car? That's unfortunate.

May just be welded slightl out or machined slightly out

    My chassis isn't twisted
  31. #31
    Actually

Looking at that bottom pic, isn't that a big ripple with big welds all over it on the chassis leg? (I'm on phone so pic isn't the biggest)
  32. #32
no - just underseal. Car's never been welded underneath. I've owned it from brand new so pretty sure of it's history!
  33. #33
    Makes sense

    So that is your car

    lol yes
  35. #35
Ahhh, you get the brace sorted then?
  36. #36
yeah - fettled it and the car a little and managed to get it to fit - unsure why it was like that tbh, and I've not seen anyone else complain so can only presume it's a one-off. Doesn't matter now tbh - just a hassle!
  37. #37
For the sake of your car and your wallet 90mm and a breace screams bad idea.
Im down 40 and my omp sat about 2 inch off the ground so I took it back off.

Only do it if you have no speed bumps or potholes anywhere around where you live
