painting inside headlights

  1. #1
Im planning to paint inside my headlights this weekend but wondered what's the easiest way to separate the lense from the light fitting?

I heard putting it in the oven to soften the glue works but wondered how you guys do it.

i put them in the oven for a few minutes on a low heat as to not melt the black plastic. keep checking it also

i smashed a headlight once trying it with a hairdryer, it didnt fully melt the glue

Defo put them in the oven at 250 degrese for about 25 minutes before sprinkeling with pepper and a touch of corriander.

No seriously low heat for 10 mins then pull the lenses apart. Also a good idea to remove as much excess glue as u can whilst is hot to make gluing them back together easier.

Be carefull the glass gets HOT!!!

I didn't even do this ^ got a hair dryer.. Heated all the lense up while it was still on the car.. Took glass off, sprayed inserts and did the same to put the lense back on

What glue is best for putting back together

i re-used the sticky grey stuff that was factory fitted, when you pull the glass off with the headlight hot from the oven you will find that theres more than enough glue left on the lamp to just simply stick the glass back on

I did as mentioned above. Hair dryer to heat up the glue and used a screw driver to prize the glass away from the surround.

When putting it back together, just use the hair dryer again to heat the original sealant and press the glass into place.
