crossover year engine swap help!

  1. #1
    Hey.

Would a crossover year vtr engine fit my 2002 vtr loom

    3 plug vtr engine
    To
    1 plug vtr engine

Ive been told that if I take the sensors out of my 3 plug engine and then put them in the 1 plug engine and then I can hook my 3 plug loom up to the 1 plug engine allowing me to drop it in plug it in and then fire it up off my 3 plug ecu

    Is this possible ?
Or is there anything im missing.
    If so what.

    Thanks

    Anyone?

    more to it then that

itll fit.. you could probs get it to fire, but alot of the sensors are diff on tb iirc, and the 3 plug combines MAP sensor and IAT sensor, which would make probs

why are you trying to do it?

Thats what I was afraid to hear haha.
The new engine had a rallye inlet on it if that makes a difference?

Any my engine is pissing all sorts out in like 5 different places and the head gasket has just gone. It has near on 100k on the clocks too.

The new engine was from a 2000 saxo that was rear ended in 03 so the lad took the engine out and stored it . Its only got 12k on the clocks and had a new cam belt and clutch.

Seems better to buy that for the price it would cost for my head gasket alone

Whats my options regarding the loom?
I will be getting a loom and ecu with the engine but lack the funds to splice my interior loom

Is there any way around the MAP and IAT sensors ?

As I said it does have the rallye inlet on but am unsure if that makes a difference?

You splice the engine loom not the interior loom matey. How much funds are you lacking?

done it easy stuff just use all 3 plug engine sensors on the single plug engine like so have done around 6/8k on it no problems now

Im not sure what splices where tbh. Wich is why id have to pay for it to be done.

And im skint the engine is a bday gift so I can get back on the road so I need the cheapest option

    As above

You get the option of either having a loom spliced and running the older ecu with the engine

Or use the sensors off the original engine on the single plug one, may have to block a hole or two or some slight mods, I can't remember

Reason I asked above, is because if it was just a straight swap for replacement, it's easier to just find the correct engine lol

Did you not have to do anything about the map sensor?
And what year engine did you go from and the year of the engine you went to ?

went from a 98bhp 02 motor when rod bearing went to a late 99 early 00 silvertop 90bhp

map sensor plugs into the normal place on inlet as above and ecu with read map and temp sensor fine since its actually in the inlet, you need to us the 3 plug tps, blue and green coolant sensors and coilpack otherwise rest is bolt on

If you've got two complete engines there

You "should" be able to get it going no probs, just mix and match the bits you need, biggest issue you'll have is probably the rallye inlet

Was the icv not diff on yours Gav? Some have 4 pins and some have 3 iirc
  13. #13
I just used the stepper off the 90 motor andy plugged in fine but you are right but think thats the early engines
  14. #14
God knows, been trying to get my head round what he'd have probs with, forgot you'd put a 90 in yours

If got both full set ups, should be able to get it going
  15. #15
Ahh right . Well I guess il give it a go. Just have to mix and mach like you said.

Is there much power loss from the 98bhp to the 90 bhp engine btw ?

Also what should I look for when I pick the engine up as its been stood for a while.

Dont want an engine that is worse than mine.

    Chears lads

You won't even notice power difference tbh mate

Just make sure it's not seized and rusty as fuck
  17. #17
oh can get rallye inlet running piss easy to but will need to drill and tap the stepper motor housing onto the side of the rallye inlet so it sits on the driver side like the above pic, and drill n tap a hole for the map sensor on the front of the inlet but also on that side.

tps is easy to sort as well just need to make an adapter plate to bolt to the oem rallye fittings then drill the plate put the 3 plug tps on spindle then bolt it down once you've established where it should sit dead easy

Im asuming if i can crank it over by hand by twisting the cogs the belts sit on (cant think of the technical turm) and its not overly rusty it should be ok ?

Or is that not how you check for seasing ? Haha
