Is This ECU Plug And Play?

  1. #1
Made threads a few times here, still having problems with the motor

Replaced the lambda sensor, car is still overfuelling. I'm assuming it's an ECU fault, that the ECU is causing the overfueling by erroneously creating a rich mixture.

Not 100% sure on that but I know I can get an ECU pretty cheap. My question is this, will it just plug in and work?

My car has no immobiliser, I've found an ECU for dirt cheap on Ebay and the numbers match up.

    BOSCH
    0 261 204 768
    MA 3.1 58
    96 315 287 80

I just don't know if it will work, I don't know about the codes, immobilisers etc, I just want to buy the thing, pop in it and have it bloody well work!!!! To my knowledge an ECU needs to find a code from an immobiliser to work.

My car doesn't have one but can I assume the car this one was pulled from didn't have one either because the numbers match up?

If it doesn't ''plug and play'' (and before you say it no, I'm not going to buy a plug-and-play ECU as they're expensive and it may not even be the solution to my problem!) is it a matter of having it reset?

    Thanks in advance.

They're dam expensive though and it may not even be the solution to my problem so I'd rather not waste the money but I get your point

still not sure what to do. both my ECU and the one on Ebay have matching numbers but I don't like to assume.

ill wait for more replies, thanks though

I've found another ECU which has the exact numbers as my one and even says made in germany, the one i found said made in france.

in the description it says the unit will have to be reprogrammed. is this something simple and cheap that the mechanic can do?

my air filter is clean and not broken, replace coolant temp sensor, replaced lambda, maybe even replaced tailpipe on exhaust not sure. put new cat in

so what the fuck is it, it has to be the ECU which is causing my overfueling.
