'Best' Quickshift for Saxo

  1. #1
Once I've got my Harnesses sorted I'll probably get myself a Quickshift, now i have seen a few different types of these, the actual gear stick itself, one in the linkages and another one that houses around the gearstick (Compbrake i think) which one is easiest to fit and the 'best'

    Also value for money!

    Are they worth the expense?

    Thanks!

    Anyone? *tumbleweed rolls by..*

I like the compbrake, but ou need too replace the grub screws with stainless steel ones, as the standards just round if you put any pressure on them.
Best overal would be the satchshift
  4. #4
Satchshift is a pucker bit of kit but mega expensive and needs alot of bodywork modifying etc, not worth it tbh!
  5. #5
    satchshift, /thread.

    only £300.

does not need a "lot" of bodywork modifying, just two or three holes IIRC, comes with instructions.

Satchshift is an awesome bit of kit but bit extreme for an 8v i reckon!
  7. #7
I got a baker Quickshift its good bit of kit and well worth the money takes 5 mins to fit aswell,

Reduces gearthrow by around 60% i'd say.

To hell with putting a £300 satchshift on a pretty much standard VTR thats worth around £800.
I would just put a baker quick shift in it like Cam has recommended.
Its a similar argument to the B8's Vs Apex kit. Yes, B8s are better, but the gains simply dont justify the cost over the apex kit on a road car that being driven to the shops

I've had a couple on some of my cars.

    I found this style shit.

Whereas the baker one is top notch, I'd love a satchshift but yeah im not made of money.

Totally transforms the gear change. Most quickshift kits will just decrease the gear stick travel, whereas the satchshift completely changes the entire system. Great feel, but mechanical sympathy is advised. No rubber bushes to soak up any sloppy changes.
  15. #15
Right, simple answer to your question. If you can afford a Satchshift, get one. If you cant stretch to it or want an oem style one than the one linked above would be ideal. (justget decent grub screws and locktite them in.)

The ones that clip between two linkages in the engine bay are also worth a try. Its what i have on mine for years.

I've had a Compbrake for a while now:

Really like it. Didn't get a Satchshift as it's just bloody expensive. Only thing bad about is that the gear knob is freezing cold in the winter

    So then out the three

    Baker BM Quickshift (Linkage one)
    B&M Quickshift Gearstick
    Compbrake Gearstick surround one..

Out the three, whats reccommended? As I will get one due to the gearstick having 3 mile of travel between gears, I'd love love love a Satchshift, i think they are pucker! but its £300 i could do without spending!

Out of the few in the link below, what would you say (apart from Satchshift for now.. maybe one day!)

Baker BM Quickshift (Linkage one)cheap and good overall
    B&M Quickshift Gearstick
Compbrake Gearstick surround one..more expensive than the BM, but the grub screws and collars let it down hugely.

i've been planning on getting one for a while, leaving it till the last minute when the car is ready to actually move

did you fit yours yourself? i've heard a few tales of it being a ballache but never really looked into it
  20. #20
Sadly mine isnt in yet, but after trying other peoples i took the plunge straight away and bought one. Its not a complete ball ache but is 100x easier with the engine out for obvious reasons (drilling holes in the bulkhead)
  21. #21
the holes are just for the linkage i take it

    Nope.

BM is the best all round one, requiring no maintenance and does not suffer from the grub screw and collar related problems that the whatsitcalledmabob one does.

Oh right so the BM Linkage one is the bolt on a go hassle free one for daily use?

  28. #28

  29. #29

Would like to get this for mine, was it hard to fit? Thanks.

I had one of the first saxo satchshift's. Well THE first BE gearbox satchshift for a Saxo/106.

I took it to trax back in '11. Many people sat in the car and felt it. 3 people placed orders for one within a month after using mine. They are awesome bits of kit and if you can afford it, I'd highly recommend it. Cannot even compare them to the baker/gmc etc items (which are ok in their own right.

You really do have to have a go with a satchshift to see how good they are.

Baker one seems perfect for OP though. I used to have a compbrake, grub screws are a nightmare.
  33. #33
I had a compbrake style. After the gear stick falling down on a test day at silverstone it flew about 3-4 garages forther down the pits.
now i got a baker style stick. nice short throw. but depending on if your cgangung yours cos you want it shorter or cos its a bit sloppy. i would also change the main shaft under the car. the piviot on the bulkhead and the 3 rods too. this will tighten up the shift a lot

    manic

On a budget b&m by a long shot, tried all the other 3 they shorten gear throw but don't feel as tight as the b&m!

The B&M being the Gearstick replacement yes? all these names

I have a TAS one, the original beast that compbrake copied, and its been fine. The grub screws are bang on and have been for 9years so maybe compbrakes ones are snidy.

The rose joint is a wee bit tired now though, still perfectably usable.
  37. #37
i just got an OBP (combrakes style) quickshift, but being a novice and having read up, is it a bastard to fit?

After seeing yours at the ring trip few years back I wanted one, and wasn't disappointed once I used one, really works well for the track, well design kit, and easy to fit even with the engine still in place.

Compbrake did not copy TAS, they ARE TAS
