alternators ... talk to me

    right so on the look out for a brand new alternator not a recon one i would like brand new.

    there are two types a 70 A one and an 80 A one which one should I get its a 1998 single plug car GTI

    a brand new one will cost over £200+vat
    price will not vary much between 70+80amp units
    80 amp is later spec

    It'll be a recon unless its from citreon.

    And even if they would be a bit inferior, you can still use up 4 of them for the price of 1 new from Citroen

    I don't see the problem with Recon units.. They put new parts in, and replace most of the innards.. Chances of one breaking any time soon is slim

    As above & you`ll still get a 1yr warranty,bought mine from eurocarparts took in the old one & got some money off the new one.

    previous experience with re con ones never seemed as good and fail quickly

    so for the extra 40 its worth a new one i think - I know this doesn't guarantee it wont fail however piece of mind!
