ITB's Cut scuttle - Inspiration!

  1. #1
Looking to do this to my shell soon, so im just looking for some inspiration really. I would like it to look reasonably tidy.

    Post pics please

Should be able to see mine in this letterbox just in the lip so wiper covers ect all still fit

  3. #3
Yeah. I have to get rid of the lip along the top though, as my bodies point quite high (GSXR setup) and currently the filter just wont fit!

I am going to be using the LHD wiper setup, so I can cut out more than that.
  4. #4
I ran no filters due to no chance at all to fit one lol
  5. #5
Way to do it neatest is to cut the hole thing out
  6. #6
a small word of warning .
no i,m not trying to an arsehole
If you get a very strict mot tester he will fail the car if you make cut out ,unless the put the "strength " back by fitting something else .
the mot laws say any hole in /rot etc within 30cms of a olad bearing member is a fialure .and as the metal yuo are going to remove is well with in that from rack mountings .strut tops etc they can be a bit pendantic .
I see no loss of measurable strength by cutting a hole there ,but i would suggest check with the mot tester you intend to use and see what he wants to be happy .
a tube bewteen strut tops should be enough ,but not for me to say
  7. #7
if you swage the holes cut that would probably increase the strength of the area compared to the original design.
  8. #8
Racks below the pedal box well more than 30mm away
And i was over 70mm sideways from the strut top mounting with my hole

Its why it was kept as small as it is
Only just large enough to feed some air in

Also i hadnt then removed the chassis number

EDIT i read that as mm not cm lol
    Oops :/

    Might be an option?
  10. #10
top rack mounting bolt is 29cm,s and the strenthening plate it is attched to is a lot closer ,
but anyway building it back into a welded box should keep everybody happy and using LHD wiper gives more space,

a letter box made from small dia CDS tubing welded to the scuttle and extended to strut top sand tacked to the scuttle al the way ,then you can use the scuttle area to get your cold feed ?

Right finally back to a pc!

Never knew that! Will have a think about it like. What have you done in the past with customers cars?

I like that. Looks real tidy. How is the air flow into the bodies?
  12. #12
How do Sandy get away with chopping the scuttle out completely then? I think that is probably the best way for airflow!

Looks pretty neat too with a welded on brace across.
  13. #13
Air flow is reasonably good, it's needs opening up slightly to allow better air flow as we've lost about 5% of power from the engine dyno figure when it was mapped out of the car compared to the rolling road figure obviously with the engine in the car - however this could be a lot of different factors not just scuttle design

Hmmm. I do really like the look of yours. I would have to cut the top lip, where the bonnet rubber sits, away though as my fliter has no chance of fitting with that there!

Got any more pics of yours JP?

I cant purely cause of how my bodies fit
Its too large to fit a decent filter

yup, mine are the race set up so slightly different to the ones they sell in the kit i believe

    Right, progress so far..

I cut some of the top lip off:

I then had to grind off a small lip down the bulkhead, as there was no way to fit the filter unless I took the head off! Might be a bit un-practical that lol

So just some more tidying up to do. I will run a weld along the part of the bulkhead that I ground off, between the two panels. Then see about strengthening the top. Any ideas for that?

Sorry to hi-jack but what make is that filter and where can I get one?

    look like itg to me
