VTR Mk2 Stock headgasket thickness

  1. #1
    Hi guys,
Planning my turbo build and currently listing parts I need to buy. Can anyone tell me the OEM headgasket thickness on a MK2 (100bhp) VTR.

I'm looking to buy a 1.9mm MLS headgasket to lower the compression ratio, I think I read somewhere that stock is 0.6mm but I want to clarify first. If anyone can tell me that a 1.9mm MLS headgasket will run at 7PSI happily, that'd be appreciated. I personally feel it should be fine, but would like to check your guys opinions.

Please don't tell me to go forged or "Do it properly" - this is a pure budget build. My turbo and piggyback dastek ECU cost me less than £80 combined, put it that way

Don't quote me but I think OE is 1.5mm, then 1.7/1.9 are repair gaskets

But to answer your question, yes 1.9mm will be fine...if you only want 7psi on a VTR there's no need to even lower the compression

Thank you, been reading your build, only about 10 pages in but like it so far And okay, as far as reliability on stock CR, at 7 psi will it be okay? It's a budget build but i've allowed for a headgasket, if it'll be unreliable/a disaster waiting to happen id rather shell the 40 quid now

I assume a higher octane fuel on stock CR would definitely be a benefit?

VTR and vts are the same gasket

Edit. Or do you mean in fibrous gasket

if car has "paper+fire ring type gasket " you need to change it anyway --citroen uprated ALL 1.6 engines to MLS gasket in 1999
yes iIF 7 psi is max boost then std shold be fine with suitable alterations to timing = fuel
1.5mm is std thickness of mls

How come the fibre ones are still produced for the 1.6s? cost cutting I assume for the budget concious?

So 1.9mm, 7 psi, good map and higher octane fuel = winning?
