wondering about a conversion?

my saxo has finaly died yesterday as the cambelt went and my engine is now as good as gone as it will cost more to fix than replace. i have been toying with the idea of a vtr conversion but apparantly you have to cut something away and weild it as it will become weak or something? anyone know anything about it?

(sorry if this has already been posted i cant find it using search)

Where you read that utter bullshit? Lol

my mate told me :') he said something die to the driveshaft or something :') so is it just a direct replacement apart from engine mounts and breaks ect?

sounds like your mate has no brains lol
but vtr lump will fit straight into your car pal it alot easier than you think aslong as your mate aint helping you LOL..

but before people start let me be the first to say use the search part there is plenty of 'how to' pages about this conversion buddy.

ahh thanks mate, and do I need to change the gearbox? and I tried to and couldn't find anything? you got a link to it?

he might of been referring to the vtr engine mount crade on the inner wing

you can use the 1.1 mount and its normally fine but the best way imo to do the conversion is to weld the cradle (which youll have to cut out of a vtr/s) into your chassis and use the full vtr mount

yeah, i know a weilder and wont charge me anything and do i need a gear box and driveshafts and wishbones because i have heard you need them?
  8. #8
    You dont NEED them
If you go wishbones youll need the struts amd front arb and allsorts

    Personally what id do is
Vtr engine 1.1 box and vtr shafts on all the 1.1 wishbones ect but get the vtr brakes too

Depends, A lot of people use the 1.1 box on the vtr engine, it aids acceleration.
So its upto you, you can still use your existing box, shafts and bones or you could go for a VTR set, I wouldn't bother though.

Rear axle isnt as big a deal as youd think
    I wouldnt touch it
Id literally just pop bigger stuff up front brakes wise

For the road just keep the same back axle vt brakes, decent pad (ds2500 or 3000, ebc green stuff) make sure the rears work effectively and all is good
