Hi everyone. Ive bought a 2001 vts which seems to be heating up quitr alot. The guage goes up and down. Upon further viewing my oil breather pipe wasnt connected. Could this be a cause or really not the main problem

#2Don't think so, asking as the temp is going just a bit past half way and then the fan kicks in it should be ok, check your water levels, if it's low top it up, if it's really filthy u should change it and give it a flush
The day nice na true -
#3Water level is great but filthy. Ill drain it. Its my firat project really. My rocker cover also needs the gasket changing as theres a fair bit of oil seeping. Grrrr

#4Good luck with the rocker cover , it's a sealant by the way if u diddent know

#5Empty some radiator flush into the coolant, flush through with a hose. Then fill with fresh coolant & finally bleed the system.Quote:Water level is great but filthy. Ill drain it. Its my firat project really. My rocker cover also needs the gasket changing as theres a fair bit of oil seeping. Grrrr

#7Where abouts does the guage move between? Mine always used to sit just below half until i hit traffic then used to get upto just over that before the fan kicked in and brought it back down. Only took a couple of minutes of traffic for it to start climbing though. Seems pretty standard from the others ive experienced.Quote:Hi everyone. Says in the OP's first post its a vts? So will just need cleaning and re-sealing i expect. -
#8Well the temp sits just under half way, rises instantly in traffic then drops to the bottom and rises back up. I wasnt worried until I popped the bonnet and found the cover was so hot that the oil cap and hose which in on the cambelt cover seemed to be burning a hole in the material under my bonnet

#9Drops to the bottom? The bottom of the gauge or back to just under half?
If it was me i'd have the cam covers off, good clean out inside and re-seal them nicely, and give the car a good service at the same time, oil, oil filter, plugs, air filter, fuel filter, coolant flush & replacement etc. And go from there. Won't cost a great deal to do if you're capable of doing it yourself? And will benefit the car either way. -
#10Sorry no drops to about quarter on gauge. I can do all that, I bought the car as a project so im up for attempting it. Thanks
