noise from front of car

Ok so I posted a problem a week or 2 ago that the car was revving aggressively on its own whilst idling and the car was struggling to stay running when the car as started from cold :

Anyway I took the idle control valve out and gave it a good clean and also the housing that it sits in.

Now when the car was revving on it own it was hitting 4-5k revs whilst idling and now that I have cleaned the ICV the car is still revving on its own whilst idling although it seems to top at 2k revs now for some reason.

I did a 100 mile trip this morning and a new noise has developed from the front of the car which I am guessing is linked to the initial problem.

When I am driving at about 40+ mph the noise can only be described as a separate revving noise to the actual normal revving of the engine when I am driving (If this makes any sense).

It may be worth noting that there was a whine coming from front of the car when I started it from cold 2 days ago and for the last few weeks i've noticed white smoke coming from my exhaust, maybe these are linked?

    Any help would be great.

How much difference did cleaning it make?

How much difference you think a 10 year old ICV being swapped with a brand new one will make?

That I can do, I suppose the real question I have is...

Would the dodgy ICV be responsible for the dodgy noise from the engine, the dodgy start-up from cold and I should have mentioned the fact that the car stutters and judders when say slowing down at junctions or traffic lights when the car is cold (the car feels like it's going to cut out or something?).

No video of the noise = pretty much impossible to guess.

But if it's whining, it's something that rotates... and the bearings are on the way out.

Gearbox diff? Alternator when cold? Driveshaft / cv joint?

Yeah a sticking ICV causes some horrible stutters / judders on part/no throttle.

When your WOT (wide open throttle) the ICV plays no part.

Wouldn't cause difficulty with cold starting though..

Cool, I'll replace the ICV. I'm guessing the noise may not be related and it's almost as impossible to get a video that picks up on the noise so I'll just need to take it somewhere to get that checked.

    Cheers.
