16v horrible whiney noise

  1. #1
My 16v has a horrible whine kind of noise which seems to come with the revs, I thought it may have been the alternator belt as I previously had a horrible squeal which was the alt belt and thought maybe I over tightened it but after removing the belt I started the car and it seemed to be doing the same

When it's idling it seems to be fine, but when I rev it the horrible whine noise goes with the revs

I've tried this with clutch engaged too in case it may have been a clutch issue or something but it definately sounds like it is coming from the belt side of the engine

My thoughts are that maybe it is the water pump? Any ideas or suggestions would be hugely recommended guys

You can tell I'm trying to go to sleep lol. Could be can belt, I don't really know what the water pump does when it dies tbh.

What you call a whine may be totally diff to someone else

The Cambelts can whine when too tight

if its coming belt side and you have eliminated the alternator and such, the only thing it can really be is overtightened belt, faulty tensioner/idler pulley or the waterpump is on its way out.

Cheap timing belts can whine. even if tensioned correctly.

The ones with no "groove" in the tooth on the belt teeth tend to in my experience.
