if you've had no problems with the oil you use, why not stick to what you know? That said I'd use a semi synthetic on a more or less standard engine

You could go thinner on the oil to give more power but I doubt you'd ever notice the difference in the real world. Could go 0W40. Ask Oilman. I'm sure he's got some good advice.

How do your oil temps look on the sprints?

If you use a *good* Full Synthetic 5/40 you'll likely see lower oil temperatures.

However with an engine on 110k are you to worried about giving the engine every little last bit of protection?

Really depends on what you want from the oil.

How so? the temperature rating of the oil when hot is exactly the same as the a 10w40

Its a weight it will be a specific temperature etc etc. Less friction, less heat, generally a better build/compound of oil. Just because its 10/40 or 5/40 doesn't mean its going to run at the same temperature in the same engines.

A low grade 5/40 vs a high grade 5/40 you can often find (with oil temps more so) they will be lower when flat out constantly in the top end of the rev range e.g more stable - this is more the point I'm getting at.

I understand where you are coming from, I meant comparing very similar spec or make 10w40 to a 5w40.
I use valvolene 5w40 in my clio, found that to be a very good oil if a little bit pricey compared to some
