mk2 vtr oil filter

How do i change it, it has a screw top thing on top, and had a look at the new filter and it's like a paper cone :/

Is it as simple as unscrewing it and removing the black cover? if so, won't oil piss out everywhere?

Iv only ever changed metal type ones, so a little stumped on this concoction lol.

    Cheers

You need to drain all of the oil, then once the oil is all drained unscrew the black cap, take out the old paper filter (make sure to remember what way it come out, replace the old with the new (make sure it goes in the right way round) replace the rubber o ring and crew the cap back on. As simple as that

Unscrew the black plactic cap. inside that will be your paper filter. pull it out they do click in. and also look around the bottom of the tread . there will be a rubber o ring. change that as well the screw back together.... job done

I wonder what the reason was to change to this type of filter? probably more "eco" as theres no metal cannister to throw away I guess

Exactly this. Cheaper to make, cheaper service parts, more environmentally friendly to make and dispose of.

That makes no sense the paper inserts cost £7.50 the screw on canisters cost £5. Also I could never understand why they changed the set up to need more service parts such as the 3 o rings and the casing that bolts to the bock.

probably easier to separate the plastic and paper filter medium for recycling/disposal rather than metal and the rest.

As the top people said.. you may need an oil filter removal tool e.g chain, belt, clamp type tools. or it may be a socket type one.. the paper insert oil filters are easier to dispose and more economic to make.

the o.e metal filters cost a lot more than a fiver these days, the short service life ones have been discontinued for the long service variants.

you just need a large socket, 30mm iirc.
