Coilpack wiring?

  1. #1
    Trying to identify all 4 wires for the coilpack on a 3 plug 16v VTS

    So far I have working out

    Blue = IGN 1
    White = IGN 2
    Green = 12v
    Yellow = ??

    My question is "what is the yellow wire for?"

    Pin 1 = Primary trigger for coil pack 2 - this serves spark plugs 2 and 3
    Pin 2 = 12v battery suppy voltage via fuel injection relay
    Pin 3 = Chassis earth
    Pin 4 = Primary Trigger for coil pack 1 - this serves spark plugs 1 and 4

    So it does one of those

    Cheers

    That means its the chassis earth then.

    Yellow wire is currently not connected to anything with me running a ford zetec coilpack.
    Which only required the 3 wires I knew about.
    So I'm now happy that its nothing I need to worry about.

    Why do people use ford coilpacks?

    I know i will change for a ford coilpack.

    And, one reason is i think mine is 'halfdead'. My Saxo VTS got a little rough idle, and missfire some..

    And many of these coilpacks thats sits on the cylinder head, got heat transferring from the head to the coilpack, same on some Saab.
    Which destroys them overtime.

    The coilpack from ford (or some other brand) you would probably place beside the head, with some bracket.

    And its cheaper than an genuine one.

    Thats the reason i will change mine further one.
