    Hey guys,
This has probably been asked a thousand times but im new to forums and dont how to out what im looking for without trawling for hours through each section lol.

Basically ive got a K&N air filter on which doesn't do much and i can't really afford a full exhaust system at the moment.
Can i just get a back box that would make it sound nice?
Or maybe a back box and a de-cat pipe? but then won't the car fail its mot with a de-cat pipe fitted?
    And also what are these?

    Many thanks guys!

vtr cat is in the manifold so you would have to get a stainless manifoild to de-cat it, probably best save up and buy something like a magnex ststem or a saxsport exhaust system

Just save up for a cat back system, second hand ones come up. Theres a middle supersprint section on the for sale section.

    Take the exhaust off.

Could just get a backbox. Mine only has a peco backbox and sounds pretty good.

Thanks for the reply guys, i think i will save and get a full system for her!
Also how do i go about finding a manifold without the cat in it? and would it still be road legal ie pass the mot?

look on ebay for saxo vtr 4 branch manifold, just make sure it's for the same year as your car. as for it passing an mot, no it wont pass, you will need to swap it back over.

Drop a 16v on bodies with a straight through exhaust that's what I did to mine

ebay link you are looking at that is a race tube centre section.

first off you need to look at your exhaust set up and maybe year of car as you dont want to go splashing out on a 4 branch to de-cat the car and then find you really have an underfloor at.
one of your questions about would just a backbox make it sound nice then yes get a backbox on its own and it will improve the sound. dont expect it to be loud though as you will still have standard cat and a silencer in the system.

like i said get under your car and look at the setup, if the cat is under the car then happy days you can get a de-cat for about 30-40 quid and its real easy to swap over come mot time, will improve power ever so slightly and will increase the noise of your backbox.

yes a full system is best way to go but if you are desperate and low on funds and your setup is underfloor car then for about £70 maybe £80 you can get a de-cat and a half decent sounding backbox.

or to go really loud and proud you want a 4branch, decat, race tube and then a backbox but then your funds will go up lol.

best bet is look at setup and shop around on here and on ebay

ohhh and by looks of it as your car is 99 your set up is most probs underfloor cat

Thanks for all your help guys, i really do appreciate it!
Yes she is a 99 VTR and it does have a cat underfloor so im guessing it happy days and i dont need to really bother with a decatted manifold?
Yes i was thinking of just having a nice back box and decat pipe for now until funds improve lol, mot isnt for another 11 months anyway and like you said there pretty easy to swap back over (well it was easy on my 1.4 fiat punto anyway)
I dont want it to be really loud, just want a nice deep tone and a nice rumble when running idle, i might get shot for saying this but i quite like the sound of pops when de-accelerating, can this achieved with this car?

de-cat will get u the burble and poping noise when decelorating. 421 would help even more but yeah just a simple backbox and decat will get you what your after
