Important! : Non starter VTR

    Ok lads, just looking for advice... Long story short water was put in the fuel tank off my 1.6 vtr, everything was then drained. Fuel pump, filter an all changed! I still cannot get car to start, I stripped everything down put new spark plugs etc in, car started when I had inlet manifold off but was spitting flames out and would only idel. I've everything all back on car now but still won't start, any ideas what to try next?

    How much water got into the tank and was the car run with a petrol/water mixture? You say it only runs when the INLET manifold is removed but as soon as its put back on it fails to start?

    Yea car was started and drove about half off mile with around 20litres off water in it. I had around half tank off fuel wen sum lads filled it with water... :/ strange thing is it WILL start but sounds terrible and doesn't rev with INLET off. I'm puzzled with it all??

    It wont rev with the inlet off, however it will idle very very high lol. Have you ran it until its hot?

    I've ran it for over 1hr today. Just spits and bangs. Minute you put inlet back on will not start. Iv injectors off now. Look bit rusty but still seems strange will start with inlet off....

    Realistically the only thing this issue should have affected is the fuel system, so it may be that the injectors are knackered due to water contamination. If there is any rust near the injector nozzle then you need to source some new ones to start with. Have you tried starting it with the inlet on and full throttle? it should run with the inlet fitted if it runs with it off

    where does it spit flames from? inlet ports backfiring or exhaust tailpipe?

    Are 1.4 injectors the same? 1.6 VTRs are here to get over here. I'm puzzled with inlet... Not bother as long as I get car going again? Is there anything I'm missing that may have done damage? Iv changed filter, pump, plugs and now injectors. Any thing else?

    Ok, firstly have you definatly got all of the water out of the fuel tank, secondly have you checked the timing? backfiring from the inlet is usually a symptom of incorrect engine timing

    how have you managed to get it started with the inlet manifold off?
    And as above, sounds like the timing could be out. does it crank over with good compression? or does it wizz over quiet fast?

    I got it started by just connectin up the wiring an used throttle cable by hand. It's turning over really fast. Any1 know if the 1.1 or 1.4 injectors would fit?
