How to tell is 16v engine is cammed?

    Hi guys
    Havent been on here in years.
    Thinking of getting a project going again.

    I have a friend who has a GTI engine in a garage, he bought it "cammed" but before i go ahead and say yes id like to check the cams first? whats the easiest/best way to check?

    Whip the cam covers off mate and check the part numbers on the cams. Best way to find out for sure and you know what cams if u have.

    As above ^

    Sometimes you can see something on them if you look through the oil cap, but better to take the covers off completely to be honest.

    newmans and cat iirc have sport cam stamped on them, this is a pic of my old gti just about make out 'sportcam' this is on newmans

    Cat cams hace a big CAT stamp and etched nembers on the end of each shaft cam.

    really was racking my mind thinking what my cat cams said! i stupidly listened to the internet and someone said they say sport cam as well
