Saxo furio gearbox problems?

  1. #1
I have just bought a furio saxo a couple of weeks and I drove it tonight and it has just had a full service and it wont go into 2nd and 1st shakes and when you move the gearstick to the left it is really loose. 3rd 4th 5th and reverse are fine but 1st and second are broken and 2nd just wont go in.

    Any ideas???

firstly a service doesnt include the gearbox, unless changing the gearbox oil. The play can be sorted by changing the roll pin in the selector arm (32p from citroen) and theres a guide on here how to change it.

The not going into gear can be sorted by getting another 2nd hand gearbox for a few pennies.

    Gear linkage?

I was hoping I didn't need a new gearbox as the car is only worth £400 and I would have to get a garage to fit it for me. So could it be the linkage? Like I said 3rd 4th 5th reverse are all fine

It's possible it could be the linkage, one of the rods could have popped off. You'll have to have a look.

Cheep fix? And is it possible to do yourself or is a mechanics job. I know a bit about cars

Really simple mate, basically you've got three gear linkage rods, there a ball and socket connection so they just pop on and off. You can either get under the car and you'll see them attached to the gearbox or if you remove the airbox you can see them from up top.

Check this link it should give a bit more detail (but it is about upgrading them), in the picture in the first post it's numbers 4, 4 and 5.

All FIXED!!! a bolt holding the engine in fell out and made the engine so much it moved the rods out of the way for the gears
