Piper ultimate road cam or Newman ph3

    For a silver top vtr,

I am in the process of deciding on a cam, but after googling cant seem to find the info I need - I also tried the manufacturers but they were completely useless.

If both cams need updated injectors, what do people recomend?
And which cam will see the best gains?

The car is my daily, for now, but I can live with a lumpy idle - I had a fiat panda we turbod and managed to live with that lol!

Before anyone says go 16v, I tried it and didn't like the engine as much as the 8v.

    Thanks for the help!

how extreme do you want to go?
I'd say do a rallye head conversion myself

I used to run a vtr with a piper pb270 cam, and want more than that. At the mo I'm trying to stay away from itb's as I don't fancy the ££££ on high comp internals.
I've got a head I'm building up, so far am planning on an s2 rallye inlet and the ph3 or piper ultimate road cam, but am always open to suggestions

with stand alone ecu you might get away with a bp285 , I wouldn,t do it+ warranty you that it would pass a REAL mot test on an 8v ,but really anything more than 270 needs t/bodies + ecu to run at its best, even a 270 really needs the valve springs changing anyway as they are too weak and tend to float once you lift the rpms ,which is what you need to do to get best from that and any wilder cams ,
probably cheaper to stroke it and keep the cam you have = get predator or get your ecu remapped

Does that not just increase the engine capacity? I ran the 270 cam with no remap and standard springs, and it still developed 12 bhp, after having seen a conrod put through a piston I'm staying away from itb's, turbo route is an option, running low boost tho.
I've recently built pa panda with a turbo and running at 0.5 bar it was developing 160bhp!

What rev limit did you run with that out of interest?

Standard, I didn't get it mapped. I just set the timing at 114 tdc then spent a bit of time with a stopwatch and adjusted it a couple of extra degrees to get the best out of it.
That with a full supersprint exhaust saw 16 bhp gains - I had it on a rolling road
