How to tell if cammed?

  1. #1
When I bought my Saxo VTR a few months back, I was told it was cammed but no receipts or anything to prove it (as usual!) but I think it might be, I've spoken to a few people who have owned VTRs and pretty much all of them have said VTRs are flat out across the rev range, but when mine gets to 3k rpm, the exhaust note changes and it just takes off!
Can anyone have a guess as to whether its been cammed and whether they're race or road cams or what? I also have a 4-2-1 with a full powerful straight through system if that helps
    Cheers

    Probability says its not.

The CAM (singular) should have numbers/markings on it somewhere I believe.

Lol tbf I asked a few people with VTS' and they had a good moan about VTRs etc but then the people who owned a VTR said they had heard that VTS' arent as flat etc, they didn't winge half as much as VTS owners

Take the cam cap off the end of the end of the head behind the thermostat/under where the coil pack (on early models). If its got a letter on it chances are its an OEM cam. That said if its says J or Z its the equivalent of a mild aftermarket cam

Haha yeess I know every Saxo that's up for sale has been cammed but has no receipts to prove, but the kick my car has at about 3k rpm got me wondering as to whether this one actually has been!

Haha it already is doing and I came from a 1.3 but I do quite a lot of Go Karting and car racing in 300bhp Mk5 Golf GTis and driven quite a few supercars as well so I'm well used to speed but I was just wondering whether my car is cammed or not!

I'm going to say it's not cammed (like i just said on FB lol). I bought a standard cam to have reprofiled but i ended up selling the car before i got round to it.

The lad i sold it to couldn't even be arsed to stick the passenger Sparco in, so why would he cam it? And it's been abused ever since the day i sold it 'til you buying it, hence the state of it when you bought it.

Mine kicks at 3.5 to 4k rpm and changes engine noise and hits 60mph without a fuss and mines as standard... no mods (yet) so I would suggest it isnt
