Rough Idle. Cutting out. Jerky acceleration. And no power.

    Hi.

Basically, my engine doesn't idle well at all. Really lumpy, and then suddenly drops revs to 100 and revs back up to around 3000, sometimes with a slight misfire. Sometimes the revs wont catch and the engine will cut out.

Also, when driving at low revs, the car jerks a lot until it is at around 2500 revs, and then drives fine.

Sometimes leaving junctions, the engine will lose all power and I have to dip the clutch and start again, whilst rolling into the middle of the road.

    What have I changed?

I have currently changed the map sensor. This caused the engine to idle at around 2000 revs, constantly. But idled smoother, just at extremely high revs.

Coil Pack. This did eliminate misfires whilst driving.

Spark plugs. This didn't do much, but they needed changing anyway.

    WHAT ELSE COULD I DO?!

I have some ideas... ICV sensor? Crank Sensor? Throttle Position Sensor?

Any ideas are welcome... Just want to get it running smooth asap!

It could possibly be a faulty HT lead. I had a similar problem before thinking it was something serious but ended up just being one of the HT leads jumping to the head.

They're cheap to buy and if the plugs needed changing then more than likely the leads need changing too.

it doesnt have ht leads though. just a coilpack for all 4
andd we also changed the coilpack for a known working one

The HT leads are the leads from the coilpack to each spark plug...

There are no leads on the later 8vs and 16vs though. The coil pack fits direct to the plug via a rubber connector

yeah but when you generally talk about this set up, you say coilpack dont you rather than, oh its your ht leads when it doesnt run ht leads as such

    thank you!

Ok, that's where we were confused, when you said you replaced the coil pack I thought you was referring to the ignition coil itself rather than the the ignition rail as I didn't know you had a later model, appologies.

I only recently purchased my VTR and it has the saxperience sticker in the rear window so probably someone on here might recognise it and know more about it than I do.

I had the exact same problem on my VTS. I replaced the ICV and It fixed the problem
