lambda sleeve & boost gauge install

  1. #1
My vtr is getting turbo'd next weekend and i just want to make sure iv got everything sorted.
On my old 4-1 mani it has 2 lambda sensors, 1 at top and 1 further down the pipe. On the turbo unit it has a hole at the top of the downpipe.....am i right in thinking the top lambda from 4-1 gets sleeved and the 2nd lambda goes into the downpipe?

where do i buy a lambda sleeve from?

Next nooby question is.....how do i install the boost gauge?
Iv tried searching on here on the phone and i can't find anything.

    Cheers

think you've got your lambda's the wrong way round

On the standard car setup lambda 1 (before the cat) takes the main exhaust gas reading for the ecu to determine fuel and ignition correction.

Lambda 2 (after the cat) takes a secondary reading to determine the cat's efficiency, if the two wave lengths are similar this tells the ecu the cat needs replacing and flags a eml on (can't remember the code no.)

So i'd image either lambda is fine as they both do the same job just depends on how its wired into your ecu, i.e. if you're using a different ecu to std then you'd prob only have one channel for the lambda feedback, however if you were somehow using the std ecu then you'd need to connect the lambda to the ecu's primary lambda reading channel and sleeve the secondary.

Also kam-racing sell sleeves for lambda sensors think there around £15

The boost gauge should have a wiring diagram with it, depends on what manufacturer it is!

Im using std ecu (for now), still stuck with which lambda i should use.

will be ordering one of those.....thanks for link.

wiring diagram isnt worth looking at.....doesn't tell you shit

fair enough if it were me i'd sleeve lambda 2 and plug lambda 1 into the downpipe should work fine and assuming you haven't unplugged your wiring loom to the ecu it should already be connected to the right port.

    what make are the gauges?

first lambda in the downpipe second one in a sleeve like I had it, if you need to know how to plumb in the dump valve and boost gauge on your 98bhp engine let me know got plenty of pics or look in my old thread

so the lambda which was on top of my 4-1 mani, is to go into the downpipe for the turbo, and the 2nd lambda sleeved?

dump valve is pretty much done, its only 1 tube that goes to the inlet.

its the boost gauge im having trouble with.....where do the pipes go and what do i do with the red and black wires?

having issues at min with oil feed (from braided to solid pipe), its either too long with both or too short with just braided line :/

Boost gauges to the inlet - vacuum hose wise. The red and black wires are live and earth.

The oil feed, you could buy all the parts you need from torques on eBay and make them to the length you need.

Tee it off the above pipe, connect the red wire to switched +12V and black to chassis.

Get the proper length braided line...

the last person to use the turbo, he had both pipes attached, but isnt answering my txts/calls.
All oil feeds are now done.

question regarding vacuum tube, goes from boost gauge to 1 end of the T, wheres the other 2 ends go?

    Cheers for the help
