To much fuel

    Hi, as I use to be a mechanic years ago and I know things have changed a lot. Could anyone help me with problem of my car? It is a Saxo YTR W reg If the car does not start start away, the engine floods with fuel and you can really smell it. Took the plugs out and they are really wet. Also the battery light has started to show only on idea but goes out when the engine is revved and then comes back on. Is this related in anyway with the fuel problem? Could it be something to do with the injectors or is it an electrical problem?
    Any help would be very gratefully received.

    I'd start by trying new plugs then a coil pack. Bad starter motor or battery maybe.

    I would try icv or maf first.

    Battery light is probably unrelated. could just be a slightly slipping belt or a loose wire.

    Does the car run? and how well?

    If it's lumpy then that would suggest primary fuelling. So, MAP sensor or the green coolant temp sensor are faulty. Could even be the TPS.

    Lambda sensor isn't/shouldn't be active at startup, so I'd rule that out

    do you have any fault codes? or is there an EML lit?

    no it will not be these parts
    sounds like lke of sprk ,so check for that first
    battery being low voltage and alternator not chargng correctly could cause other problems

    Thanks for the reply's as I was starting to run out of ideas. I cleaned up some of the sensors etc and tested the alternator only to find that it was not charging. Changed the alternator for another one and at the moment it seems to running ok. I just hope that this will sort it out for once.
    It seems that the engine relays on the electrics so much to run properly.

    all modern cars do
    If battery voltage drops then all ecu,s calculations are wrong
    no point in trying to find any faults if battry voltage is low + not charging correctly .
    you need to see at least 12,5v in battery when engine not running and 13.5 when idling --more if battery is low and it is charging .
    easiest way to check if alternator is up to job is turn everything and i do mean everything on ,then check battery voltage it should still be 14v+
