Strut brace?

   I have a 1.1 and my mate has just wrote off his vtr and has offered me the strut brace for £20? Is it worth it or does it not really do much for a 1.1? And if it does help what would it do? Just stop the lean of the car or more?

   Won't do much if anything to be honest, tits on a bear type of stuff. If you want slightly better handling, you're better off buying proper tyres or ditch the 13 wheels for 14, again with proper tyres.

   Ok mate I've got budget tyres on ATM and standard 13" so need to do something about them slipping all over the place at the mo. And would a different air filter make much of a difference to the sound if I had a standard exhaust and bhp??

   budgets 13s are a guaranteed no grip, not much choice but to get premium tyres. Either that or all you get is understeer and poor braking distances. If you try bigger tyres, you end having to shift more weight around. You'll egt more grip but you will lose some power because you'll get more rolling resistance, leading to worse fuel consumption.
   
   
   
   different air filter may slightly change the (induction) noise, but wouldn't recommend that either. Regarding power, you'll gain sweet fuck all. As a matter of fact you might even lose some power because of the heatsoak, water soak during winter time, effectively the car will run like 10 pounds of shit trapped in a five pound bag. 1.1 engine by nature are not worth modding.
   
   TLDR: If you want better handling, get better tyres.

   Yeah you could do that actually. You'll get a bit of drag but the handling will improve. One last tip: just keep in mind not all places are able to fit and balance tyres on vtr alloys because of the lack of center hole.

   It would make no difference to bhp at all on a 1.1. just noise.
