Right so heres the deal. I got a new job about a month ago and thought id treat my self to a mk1 VTR! and my boss said the guy next door to him had one sat in his back garden thats only got 49k miles on. So i went round and had a look, the guy was a 87 year old that could barly walk. he explained it was his grandaughters car and she had to log book and the details. It was a really strait smooth runner and he just wanted it off his drive and said he would take 500 for it. stupidly i paid the 500 without seeing the books assuming it was a standard 1.6 vtr. then I get it home, do some digging and find out its a 1.4 import. Gutted, felt sick with it. So now my situation. ive decided to keep the car as the low mileage and great condition of it are a rare find, but i really want those extra horses under the bonnet. Please could someone tell me the best way to boost horse power so i dont feel like a total twat! Would really appreciate it!
Important! : Please help, i am an idiot i know.

#2Stick a vtr/s engine in it would be probably most cost effective and easiest.
At least next time you WILL check the docs!! -
#3sell it as a furio spec model and then by a vtr would be the easiest.
The 1.4 can be fettled with though to give a decent gain in power, but you'll be spending more that way -
#4My only issue with doing a engine swap is the cost. I was looking more along the lines of induction kits...

#5then you may as well save your money really for other things, induction kits arent going to give you a big gain in power at all - not without other modifications to the engine that require you to take most of it apart. Depending on the quality some induction kits work better than others, but cheaper ones can actually decrease the output of the engine.
In my view i'd just fit an better exhaust system, suspension setup and tyres and then enjoy the car as it is -
#6I'd sell it for a VTS, these cars go for £500 these days.

#7Wouldn't get insured on a vts as im only 18 haha. But a vtr would be nice

#8stick with what you've got

#12There only ever seems to be around 20 vts's and 20 gti's on eBay at any one time. And pretty much all are overpriced or shit.Quote:I've not actively searched for a Saxo since I was 17 so I couldn't provide a link. But they used to pop up on here for £400+ and tons on eBay.
Just need to keep looking

#13Stick with it, you paid £500 for a car with 49K on, Saxo or not. Furio is only a nudge slower than a VTR anyway. Theres like 15bhp in it...1 user thanked this post:

#14as above, £500 for a 49k car, no matter what it is, isnt a bad shout, learn how to drive for a year (yes, believe it or not, you aren't the best) give it a good clean up and keep it tidy, and sell it in a few years for the same price. no loose situation
-
#15Where's it imported from?
The 1.4's are still a lot of fun, people throw away VTR engines now if you wanted to change it -
#16I paid £300 for my vts with tax & test. It was shit though.
-
#17£500 for a 49k car is a bargin, that would just about cover the cost of a service that my car needs soon
-
#18what year is the 1.4? if its a phase 2, 2000-2001 on i have a complete vtr conversion for it, everything youll need including an induction kit ill lob in for free
