Do I need a remap?

If I get cams for my Saxo VTR, will I NEED a remap or does a remap just help get the most out of the cams? Can I buy some cams and just stick them in and carry on?
Any advice on cams would be greatly appreciated too

you will be a very skikl full engineer to get cam"s" in.to your vtr

If you weld and extra 8 valves on top of the rocker cover it should be doable!

Get it mapped, it's pointless cramming your car without.
Yes, you'll see some benefits without.
But you'll lose drivability and why not get it set up properly??

Technically cams is the correct term as there are 8 cams on one camshaft...
Also I'm just wondering, as money is tight but just wondering whether I'd be able to change the cams in it but a remap would be a good few hundred on top I guess

It depends how wild the cam is!

Unmapped you may get a rough idle, and yes to get the best you need a remap!

technicly they are called cam lobes. . and you change the shaft not a single cam.

On its own, a cam in a Vtr is a lot of work for little effort tbh. If it's more power you're after (and I hate to bang this drum again) then for the price of a new cam you can get a 16v engine - then you're onto a winner.

I ran my VTR with newmans ph3 unmapped and it was fine

noticed a big difference past 4.5k rpm, pulled hard round to 6k rpm

a map will get the best out of the work you have done so it is recommended

    What's a ph3 give? Circa 8bhp?

I really can't believe how petty everyone is getting because someone who maybe isn't all that clued up about engines said cams and not cam! Basically mate from what i understand you can run a relitavely high lift cam unmapped, you just won't get the best out of it, so you'll be better off saving and getting the cam fitted and mapped all in one hit

You do not need a remap, my vtr single plug ecu adapted pretty well, running the piper ultimate road cam, on dyno before and after map was 1 hp diffrence over the rev range, crisper throttle and better afr , but was nothing wrong without the map, I have done it personally myself, it's not hard and is a good learning experience. My car made 119hp on a shy dyno, same dyno my st225 made only 286hp when should pull 300.

    do you need one: no
will you gain even more with one: yes
is it worth the money: that ones down to you

if your thinking of itb's and other mods then probably not just wait until your happy then get it mapped

That's good with a 6250 rpm limit (before the remap). I'd be happy with that from a vtr, does it idle lumpy? Mine does
