Engine cooling

  1. #1
Since fitting my 4-1 manifold my engine bay gets red hot, what would be the best way to help cool it?

I'm thinking heat wrapping manifold, twin fan, possible bonnet vent? (Something small and subtle)

Which would give me best results?

did you have any problems fitting it ?? doin ine tday like so any tip appreciated

How do you know it's getting hot? Water temp the same as before presumably?

There shouldn't be a really noticeable change in under bonnet temps from going to a 4-1 from the standard cast manifold.

Not really, only hassle was the siezed nuts, bolts and lambda sensor.

Water temp is higher, and gets there a lot quicker

if water temp is getting hotter then it's not related to the manifold fitting. Is the system fully bled etc?

never had a problem myself when i fitted my 421 and i have the under bonnet stuff aswell, single fan. Temps never go past half even on roasting hot days.

    Sure its that?

Make sure you haven't court the manifold on the radiator when fitting it, check it over for damage or slight water leak.

There's definitely something else at fault here........

There's a slight knock on there but no leak, I think it could need bleeding my fan kicks in and sounds like a hair dryer.

Would I benefit from flushing the system perhaps?

Wouldn't do any harm,I'm wondering if its running lean for some reason.

I think a good flush will do it some good, I've no evidence of it ever been flushes or had the coolant replaced so looks like I found my job for tomorrow

Anyone know how much coolant I'll need? Was thinking 5L should be more than enough

What saxo you got?if going by your profile you'll need 5.5 litres.....

    Got a 02 furio, 1.4

Cheers mate, when I'm flushing through with hose do I flush rad from top to bottom, and then flush through hoses on both sides?

Sorry if that's a stupid question I've not done this before. Got the guide from here but just wanna double check

Don't flush the hoses, unless you take them off. You risk snapping the water manifold behind the water pump on the back of the block though.

Water flows into the rad from the top, and out the bottom.

How do I flush the engine then? Through the rad?

You put engine flush in it. Then do another coolant change after using that.

It needs to be chemical to lift all the shit. Water just won't cut it. That's if it's even got any build ups at all

That's my understanding of it anyway.

As above but I find the best way to ensure a nice clean system is to remove the thermostat then bolt the housing back on without the stat inside, unbolt the top pipe from the rad nd then run a hose through the top pipe and it'll flush the block through. Same thing goes for the radiator, flush it one way then reverse to get the debris and crud out,

That was talking from a post I found on here?

    See my confusion?

Flushed the rad, replaced coolant and the temperature is rising very gradual. Cars a lot smoother
