How much?

how much would you think it will cost in total for a new head gasket to be done - mine hasn't gone but for piece of mind!

new fast road cams and pulleys fitted and everything that goes with that

and a remap and new exhaust system

i dont no enough to do it my self so nlabour on top aswell..

    £1500 plus, easily.

Depends who does the work for you as well i.e. mapping / fitting new head gasket etc. so prices can vary.

Ring around the garages get a price.

Going to be failry dear with labour, cams and remap aswell. Id say cams will be about 300 quid. Remap will be 4-500, head gasket kit will be around 100 quid, same again for the timing belt kit, then labour on top I would imagine would be around 200 quid. Obviously those are very rough guides but will be over a grand for sure

do u think there is anyone on here that could it? if i got all the parts etc, then paid them labour?

will have to see whos sees this post lol

To save you money instead of camming / remapping you could just put a VTS lump in instead, the amount of money you will be putting in to get possible VTS gains would be more than fitting a VTS engine. Just my opinion but it all depends on your insurance I suppose.

Only 1 camshaft on a Vtr!

Exhaust is DIY-able! Can be done before the other job!

thanks guys for all info, how much can i get a decent vts engine for? hopefully with work done to it already lol, if so is it just a case of swapping engines and ecu etc?

I bought one for under £200 delivered as mine was gubbed, one that's got everything for a conversion....maybe £200-£300.

Then you're maybe looking at £500 for a garage to do it,maybe a tad more depending on hourly rate.

thanks mate, i have found a vts engine with 69k, new head gasket and timing belt, water pump etc, comes with gearbox, clutch, ecu for £175 excellent condition,

but what else would i need to get to fit this that the vtr hasn't got? see i might be able to fit myself, as ikow a little bit, but i couldn't do a head gasket or things like that but most thing out side the engine i can manage lol

Errmmmm......i think that's about it,not sure how much of an arse it is depending on single plug ecu etc.

If the vtr has a single plug ecu then get the single plug vts lump........
  13. #13
Ah didnt realise ot was a vtr sorry! In that case find yourself a nice 3 plug vts engine if its a 3 plug car, make sure you get ecu, loom immobiliser transponder and keys with it then just swap it all over into your car. Plenty of guides on here how to do it. Sounds alot harder than it is. Might be worth getting a vts or 1.1 box to go with it too as the vtr ratios are poo

yea i have the 3 point ecu 98bhp vtr, mk2

so hopefully this will go in well, may get it next month and see what happens,

    you say about the keys?

what if i cant get the immobiliser transponder cant i use mine?
  15. #15
you can use your keys (disconnect the ecu imobilizer box under the dash, there are many guides on here) but you need an unlocked ECU
  16. #16
I can do everything apart from the remap. Certainly won't be anywhere near 1500 quid though! I fit a cam free of charge if done with a headgasket.

how much for head gasket if i buy all the bits etc?

i had a look in my expansion tank today and guess what i found

GOLD SPARKLY BITS....K SEAL BY ANYCHANCE...

With you buying the gasket bits? I'm afraid I'd have to supply them in order to warrant the job. Of course I only supply OE quality. I can't talk prices here as I'm not an affiliate anymore and simo appears to be very illusive to get a hold of to have any form of advertising arranged, free or paid. But, all my prices are on my website, which needs the Cambelt tensioner bit removed. Www.krisb.co.uk
