back to black plastic spray

   I recently got some back to black plastic restorer from halfords for my trims and bumper on my vtr as they gone a dull and grey.
   
   I used it twise on just on my rear bumper over a couple days and it hasn't really made a difference.
   
   Has any one else used this stuff?
   Did it work for you?
   Any tips on using it to get the desired result(black and not dull lol)?

   That spray crap is about as much use a chocolate teapot. I use meguiars good class trim detailer, seems to do the trick and lasts for a while. Think it's about £9 a bottle. No doubt someone will have experienced something better though, probably with some obscure extinct animals name that you would have to take out a mortgage for a 5ml tester

   Ok cheers for advice, I only got the back to black coz it was 3 for 2 in all car cleaning stuff at halfords so I grabbed it as my free one lol thought it was worth a try but I was wrong.

   Use a heat gun on your black exterior trim. Search for some videos on you tube, works well.

   Yeah I've seen some vids doing that, tryed this morning but found out my heat gun stopped working lol

   I use son of a gun eBay item number:310721221694 its not bad best ive tried so far but im going to try Meguiar's alot of people say its good and its a well known brand.

   I went a read a few reviews on the back to black and they mostly say ya got to do it 5-10(depending on how bad it is) times over a few days to get the desired effect so gonna do that and see how it goes. If still shit then ill get something else.

    that halfords spray is shit, better off with autoglym/meguiars stuff. Or heatgun the plastics back to black, better than applying chemicals every two weeks.

    bloody good stuff, easy to apply and is extremely long lasting. best to give it a couple of coats over a couple of days.

    I've used a lot of auto Glym stuff and it is very good, especially for the money as it's very reasonably priced. I don't doubt that there will be some better products out there but with some silly prices.
    
    I have used the heat gun on severely faded plastics which is great for creating a 'fresh start' to maintain properly in future. It's best practice to apply some product whilst still warm to retain some moisture back into the plastic.
    
    My 309 front bumper was quite faded, it's supposed to be dark grey
    
    
    Heat gun and auto Glym applied and it's back how it should be

    Not yet Steve, I havnt been in any rush so I've ended up spending all my money snapping up loads of new genuine parts where possible, they're getting rare so I've had to grab them whilst I can really.
    I do intend to get it running very soon, before starting it I definitely want to give it a full service and get the belts changed as a minimum to be on the safe side

    Megs Endurance Gel is top shizzle for a cheap temp fix, just keep re-applying.
    
    Heat gun is an option too like Willsy said.
    
    Failing that Gtechniq C4 is pretty much permanent, it's also quite expensive.

    i use autoglym on mine, its good until it rains and it runs down the paint work. that said my bottle probably aint far off 10 year old!

    Yes I use that as a 'top coat' but beforehand and when I've used the heat gun too I use the vinyl & rubber care first

    shoe polish. seriously, some black shoe polish, rub it over the plastic, it'll come up nice and dark and lasts.

    Yes, it is expensive but it is amazing stuff and lasts for ages, make sure you watch the video it is that easy and does last as long as they claim too.

    I tried that G4 stuff aswel once, I wasn't really impressed with it if I'm honest. Sure it will darken the faded plastics a bit but I didn't find it to get it anywhere near as dark and rich a colour as it should be. With regards to how long it lasts though I don't know as it's stayed on the shelf since

    iv stuff called black diamond i used it on my wing mirror and grill, an everything else that ment to black, the stuff amazing it still pure black i done it last year

    Once I started using that I never looked back!
    
    To be fair though, once the trim is faded badly the only option may be a respray to get it back to factory standard.
