High comp - raise compression ratio - smaller combustion chamber.
Low comp - lower compression ratio - larger combustion chamber.

    Do you mean throttle bodies?

What engine have you got/do you want?

    What's your budget? Aim?

Best bhp per £££ is to fit a 16valve engine.
    90/98 vs 120.

Don't say I'm limited by insurance, as the assesors would not look kindly on a bodied 8 valver.

16v unit all day long, I had a rallye engine in mine and without spending big bucks the 8v you can only go so far with unless you consider forced induction. That is unless you are limited by race regulations or similar.
Not to say 8vs can't be good fun though with a few good modifications!

Not being funny but brand new £1200 will barely get you the bodies

Second hand you may be able to get a decent body / cam and ecu setup if you are lucky but there's no way you would be able to afford aftermarket pistons with that budget.

almost im possible to put a figure on it, but thousands, if you include parts, labour mapping etc... just getting an ecu and a map will be grand, bodies brand new are around the grand mark, couple hundred for cams but then endless list of serviceable parts and other parts which add up that you forget about such as adjustable pulley, valve springs etc

seriously drop a £300 16v conversion in it and youll be over the moon

scrap it, buy a VTS, stick a BMC on it and a 4 branch and a saxsport, you'll be nearly there.

Really a 16v is the way to go with a vts box or maybe s2 rallye box?
The lower gearing will make a big difference too!
Maybe look around for a jp4/j4 hybrid ready to drop in??
