diesel rad conversion

  1. #1
anyone got any links and info to the diesel rad or any rad with remote header conversion

mainly need the info of where the pipes in the circuit go and if you need the plastic fitting from the back of the block where the rad pipes go

i know one return line comes straight from the rad to the top of the header... one looks as though it goes to the stat housing..the main return looks like it goes to the rear suggesting id need the plastic splitter from the diesel block for the extra pipe?

    mucho appreciation

I cant really remember much how mine is but ive got a small pipe going to top of the radiator on o/s. Other going to the rear into a Y piece into original hose that has the bleed valve on.

    Hope this helps lol

just been talking to gav.. way he does it the lower header tank return should be T'd into the lower rad hose to put the water back into the circuit and the over flow from the top of the rad goes back to the top of the header..so that sounds like all i should need and is alot easier then replacing the pipe of the back of the block!

    cheers matey

ill whack some pics in here to help others when i get 5 as i couldnt find anything on here about it

most stuff on here is archived these days...takes the piss looking for stuff haha

Ye mines into the smaller pipe from the back of the block. Obv the plastic pipe on the block both hoses go into same hole. I got my header tanlk, pipes and rad from danny so just got it setup same as he had.
  6. #6
i think ill probs use that pipe tbh as itll be te same diameter as the one on the header tank

just need to get a header tank now lol

and a new rad... migt aswel buy a diesel 106 for spares tbh

I just bunged the diesel rad in my AX, and ran a pipe from the upper bleed outlet to a Ford Ka header tank. Ran fine for lots of miles and with hard driving, no issues.

cheers mate..im seeing what ive got in the unit i think ive got a c2 GT one. be a piece of piss now i know i dont need the bit off the diesel block

just ordered a new diesel rad as the one i got from the scrappy to mock stuff up is a piece of shit

I worried initially about having the extra piping and shit but have seen other cars run an almost identical setup to the way I had mine - 207 thp for one - and its just an expansion/bleed point to be honest.

basically it. im alot happier now i know itll work the way i was hoping it would. so i can just use any header i find now and save a few ££

Should do dude, the core was pretty much identical to a VTS rad, just with the header/neck chopped off. Fuck it, itll be alreet!

yeah theyre not much diff like

just bought one of these..same type as the late vtr vts ones fitted from 02 onwards...with the better/stronger fins and better cooling

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171171361632
  13. #13
    Good price that!
  14. #14
    thats what i thought too
  15. #15
Blackie, fancy making a guide as I'm looking into improving my cooling system etc in my new build. Cheers
  16. #16
theres no real improvement mate tbh...if you havent already got one..go for the later "ordinez" radiator found on the 02 on vtr or vts

im just fitting as ive no choice..the xsi bay is tiny and the saxo rad just wont fit with the turbo bits as the header neck is in the way

but ill whack a guide up none the less

Oh okay, fair play and I don't have a rad ATM as just building a spare shell I have for a little track fun. What rad would you suggest? Don't mind spending a fair amount upto 100 is doable, if you got time I have a thread about an engine issue if you could give me some feedback I'd appreciate it.
  18. #18
whats the spec of the engine? a decent new oe on like i mentioned above should be fine for most specs.

a new OE should be fine then dean

    cheers gaz. easy as pie

Ah actually, now I remember, that isn't how I did it in the end. That T piece position meant it wouldn't bleed properly. I ended up sacking the whole thing off but only because the AX bay is so small. Got a little one up by the servo in the end which T'd into the pipe going to the thermostat.
  23. #23
yeah im planning on using a c2 one and sticking it near the servo.. see wheres best to T into from that
  24. #24
My header feeds in to the lower hose between rad and water pump
But its easyer on mine as i use 206 coolant hoses so my lower hose comes over the gearbox

funnily enough ive got a 206 1.1 ive been looking at! lol

ive just been up jonsons and picked up a small GM header tank so im gonna see where i can mount that around the servo area and pick the best possible route to sort it out

ill bang some pics up when its done

I found a rad with the same size core as the diesel but had integrated header tank like most of the petrol engines, direct fit to a gti.

    Saves faffing with the pipework.
  27. #27
If you're putting it near the servo then you can T into the pipe that goes from the thermostat housing round to the heater matrix

theres literally no room for the rad on the kit im running mate..ive had to put it right forward and right up... the over flow pipe is gonna have to be drilled into the side of the inner morrette so the pipe can fit on

ill whack some pipcs up the morra.. ive got a corsa B one i believe and got the lower pipe that matches..its gonna run the pipe under the servo behind the brake lines and straight to the rear hose with the bleed cap on.. under the matrix hose theres another run off with a rubber plug blocking it (never seen one of these ones before so there must be loads diff ones as ive seen a few different!) so its worked out pretty fucking well tbh..dare i say it may even look OE
  29. #29
Nice. Love it when you get a mod looking OE. I was gutted when I couldnt get the diesel header tank to bleed cos it looked great.
  30. #30
what was it doing like? just keep over heating?
  31. #31
No the header tank was just filling up and coolant wasn't making its way into the system. Took about an hour to get a litre in there
  32. #32
strange that like theyre the normal choice for ppl
  33. #33
If you had opened the bleeders g it would of worked
  34. #34
    Get some pics up andy.

My derv rad (gmc alloy header tank for looks) was good for 300hp. No issues even when blasting then traffic etc.
  35. #35
My 1.5d rad is so good, I've been driving with no rad fan for over 2 years and never had it overheat. Even sitting in traffic for 25 mins.

Fitted the fan today, for the sake of OEM-ness.
  36. #36
    in and fitted..

the pipe from the back of block had an extra tak off with a plug in it..so i pulled the plug out and drilled the hole bigger as was only fit for a small pipe... with some struggle the corsa (i believe) pipe forced over after chopping it down to size

bracket made for the header to fit infront of the servo.. the pipe has a nice curve to go round the back of the brake pipes
