Engine problems

    Hello,

So my saxo vts mk2 is struggling a bit at the moment.
It has an oil leak, water leak and sometimes big clouds come out it when you hammer it (out the exhaust and into the interior, normally at the handbrake)
Looking at the engine it looks like the head gasket had blown in the past. There's sealer all over it.

Is it worth getting the engine rebuilt? Or just buy a 2nd hand engine and get it dropped in?
Any advise? I like my car and the mot is up in 2 weeks. So would like to have it in good shape.

    What do you think?

I have a similar issue to this with my mk1 vts, oil is going missing as is water but I don't have the smoke coming into the car its only the odd white puff from the back box and the smell of curry powder in the engine bay after a spirited drive, I suggest you check the exhaust couplings and ensure they're all tight as you could have exhaust gases escaping either pre or post cat.

As for the sealer are you sure that isn't where the cam ladders have been previously sealed up? The seals perish and spew oil all over the exhaust manifold causing nasty black smoke prompting many owners to reseal them with high temp sealant so it could be that.

I don't think a full engine rebuild will be needed and buying a replacement engine is a gamble IMHO especially if you are replacing it for the sake of the HG. Taking it to a local garage and getting it sniff tested would be your best bet and if it's the HG then get that done (should be around £300) or DIY, I'll be doing my HG and priced the parts up at around £100 with about £40 to get the head properly checked and skimmed if needed.

    Good old saxo's

    Hello,

So finally got my car up somewhere to have a look under it to try and find the water leak.

    Here are the pictures.7

the radiator is stone cold even when the temp guage is up near the red 3/4 up the dial.

the leak seems to be dropping down behind the sump but i cant see where it could be coming from. Any ideas/or suggestions?

Any clues how you get the bolt off the timing belt cover that's down low and to the front of the car if the whole thing turns?

And is it possible to leaver off the belts by jamming in a screw driver to it, trying to hold it?

I think you access that one from the drivers wheel arch, there's a hole but if it's just spinning I don't know ..
