1.6 THP engine

Anyone put a DS3 1.6 THP engine into a Saxo/ 106 yet?

Good power but what's the fitting entail?

Fitting wouldnt be too hard as its similar dimensions but youd need a complex ecu to run it. I wouldnt bother though, theyre not the most hardy engines and the timing chain setup is pretty grim.

Ah, gotcha. Didn't know they weren't that tough. Really thought they'd be fine, don't they put out 200bhp ish I as standard in the DS3 Racing and Mini, etc?

Yes, they can produce 200hp, but when a 306 2.0 16v Xsi is still catching your 200hp mini at 140mph+ y'know...

A 306 xsi wouldnt catch anything at 140+

looked at them 4 years ago --not simple to swop
serious tuning --very costly=as would be an ecu system to run direct injection.

It will give more power reliably than a tu5j4 or jp4 engine , when tuned correctly . not seen many people runing saxo,s with pockets that deep --hence i never went any further than working out what needed to be done release the best from that unit

One of my options if my engine ever goes bang.

1.6T or a 206 1.6 XSI JP4 and body it and use the XSI ECU. My ECU & complex electrical system makes my car crap for big mods without loosing features.

I'll watch this thread as I haven't seen anyone bar on info talk about these engines for swaps.

In my opinion I think the 206 is a bit big for a jp4 to lug around bodied or not

You're probably right, but within the next 2 years I plan on making this a weekend toy. I really want to get in to tracking so the car would be mega stripped.

It's either that or turbo, that would be dollar though because I wouldn't want any old half job. With itbs it's easy to find second hand kits for these engines.

It's not happening yet, the stock engine would be great with the car stripped and a map. I just hate the complex electrical system. I guess though if it was to become a track car I wouldn't exactly need to have the climate control and other bits working...

Got me thinking now lol.

strip all that out and fit a standalone?
Or build something a bit more basic for track

Depends on how my engine is in a few years really, ideally a more basic car to have fun, but I've heard with standalone on the 180 lump you can get more power and it would be something I'd consider.

For instance guys going for cams are getting just under 200 on stock ecu and a custom map. I've read scrapping the ecu can get up to 220 just from custom mapping the standalone with cams.

I definitely have to get this on track at some point it's always been something I've wanted to do but I won't do it on a daily. Pugs worth naf all nowadays so il end up keeping it for fun.

It's all down to the ecu/bsi that make these a cooont to tune.

I remember Sandy Brown saying he said the EW is a technically good engine and sees no reason you couldnt get big power from it, pockets permitting.

Given the way the manifold routes down the back it might make turboing a bastard. Maybe consider supercharging instead?

I'd personally not put a jp4 in a 206 unless boosted, my mother had a cc and it was drastically under powered, Chris' lass had an xsi iirc? And it was sluggish too

Yeah they are, the engine definitely can handle quite a lot more. Outside of the UK there are a few big power RC's particularly in Turkey, what seems to have always been the biggest killer of peoples dreams of tuning them in the 206 world is the ECU etc. As they are difficult - to say retain stock features not many bother. On a road car those things you loose you usually want obviously for track = fuck them off lol.

DP used to do a turbo kit not sure if they do now but it was ridiculous money and didn't include much. Charging is something I have considered I know Ecosse have done a few 180's. Obviously I wouldn't fancy them doing it as they charge stupid money because of their rep certainly at the time. Also they are quite cowboyish with wiring as one guy on info found out on his ITB'd 138 lol.

I'm going to have to think of what to do, certainly in more depth closer to the time. I would want usable power nothing extreme enough to get it around a track as quickly as possible while retaining drive-ability, last thing I want is something that struggles for grip and a dif is something on my little list too.

Yeah maybe I'll scrap the jp4 thought lol forgot my cars got a faaaat bootay compared to my old little Saxo. I'll be looking at cheaper alternatives than say paying nearly 7k to supe my engine up though. Shame I'm not more mechanically minded to DIY up til mapping...

Is that using a big shity Eaton? Id rather use a Rotrex, way less bulky and more efficient. Mappings the only thing that would be tricky, the rest would be doable if you were competent with the spanners.
