Important! : 1.1 - vtr

    Hello,
So firstly, my cam belt... Its perished and basically snapped when driving along at 30mph, i am pretty sure at least 2 of my valves have bent, and repairing seems too much hassle and expense.
So i have decide fuck it is VTR time.
im doing mechanics at college and i recon im competant enough - a friend has a vtr for sale cheep and has the resources to do it and i dont need opinions or critisms, i know my insurance is going up blah blah blah i just wanna know, basically, what im gonna need to think about.
I have heard the looms are the same?
the mounting points are the same?
    the 1.1 geearbox will fix?
an unlocked ecu? how do i unlock it? and why does that need to be done?
I already have vts struts and brakes. so is that everything?
The engine will come with radiator fans all that crap
    HAVE I MISSED ANYTHING?
Will i need any specific tools?
and what should i check before i buy this engine...
    SAFEEEE

Unlocking your ecu will make it plug and play and you will not need to swap your keys over to run the car. And yes a 1.1 gear box will fit all you have to make sure is the engine loom and ecu are the same on both cars I.e 3 plug ecu to 3 plug ecu and that the plug that connects the engine loom to the interior loom are the same it's at the front just behind the left hand light as you will need to run the vtr engine loom and ecu if there not the same you will have to splice the looms together

Take the immobiliser out off your 1.1 its underneath the dashboard on the passenger side, a little black box the size off a pack lf 20 cigarettes. Get a unlocked vtr ecu and you will not need to swap the ignition barrels over
ect. I would also get the vtr engine loom aswell. Its all pretty straight forward tbh just need patience, and yes the 1.1 box will fit

How would I go about getting my ecu unlocked and roughly how much would that be?
Can I not just use the key from the new ecu?
    Thanks

you can send it off to a company who can do it for about 60 quid a go. Or do it yourself when you get the donor car, start the engine on it and then unplug the immobiliser box while the car is running, this then unlocked the ecu. As long as you dont plug another immobiliser box back in it'll stay unlocked.

really? does that actually work? that sounds alot easier than spending £60 on getting it unlocked but other than that an engine conversion will consist of lump loom ecu...?
Why can i not just use my 1.1 ecu? they are both 3 plug, both 2003 saxos

1.1 ECU controls fueling and ignition for a 1.1 engine. Add an extra 500cc in there and different cams and it all changes.

seriously run it on the right stuff for the engine if possible, you dont want fuelling issues which running the wrong ecu will cause.

So just start the engine take off immobiliser, turn engine off remove engine and ecu and put in 1.1 car. And it will work?

remove the ecu with the engine running. The engine will cut out. At this stage, remove the immobiliser.

Once you've done that, hook the ECU back up and double check the engine starts. If it doesn't then you've done something wrong and need to hook the immobiliser back up and try again.

The proper way to do it is get everything from the donor car so thats immobiliser ,ecu, key and transponder ring/unit in the ignition barrel. Considering how easy these cars are to circumvent the ecu security though you can see why people dont bother too much doing this.

Whilst the engine is out its worth doing cambelt and water pump etc....

Seconded. Chances are the water pump will need a good beating to get it out, always easier with the engine out but don't expect an easy ride

Why do you need to change the loom itself , can you not just change the ECU ? ( sorry for the hijack)
