Audi RS4

  1. #1
After considering a couple of different options (C63, M3, M5) I was'nt overly tickled by any of them and the resale value on that lot seems fairly weak (my old man has lost a fortune on his C63 and its only done 700 miles). Not really sure what to look for I saw a 996 turbo on a car site and decided to go have a look at it once I got home, when I got to the garage it was already sold, bummer eh. After mincing about and wondering what to do for the rest of the day I saw an RS4 in the corner that was for sale, after chatting with the salesman it was the managers car. Spent about an hour talking to him, got the history of the car, full audi history, spec etc. Had a mooch about and decided to have a bit of it, the wife wasnt happy but she never is.

So anyway, I dont know why I felt I needed to write a story but here it is. Plans are an exhaust, probably Milltek as I was happy with the quality of the one's I've had on my Cayenne and Golf, some form of induction kit and a remap.

Did you lose a leg in a parachute/bbq basting related accident, or are you being a naughty boy Ross?

I checked RS04 REV instead of Ross', which is RS04 RUN.

Interestingly though, I had that reg in mind because it's Revolution Motorstore's demo car in Newcastle, so it's on my facey every 2 minutes, wonder how they swing disabled tax on it?

Primary user just needs to be registered disabled.

Having it on disabled tax is a handy way to circumvent the hefty first years showroom tax

After becoming annoyed at the lack of V8 noise other than the induction roar I started looking at exhaust options. The Milltek is the popular option but they seemed a little tame so I found a tubi rumore backbox and straight mid pipes. Its loud, like fuck me I'm pissing off everybody within a 2 mile radius loud. So I now have some resonated mid pipes to try but heres a video of the noise anyway

That's Mike's RS4 in the video - and even he says that it's unthinkably loud lol. I've been after a tubi for ages but am now actively searching for one as oddly enough my desire for them was rekindled this weekend after hearing one

Its Mike exhaust setup that I bought and it is incredibly loud. Not so bad considering I drive the car once in a blue moon I guess but its not like you can potter off to the shops. I'm going to put the resonated pipes on and see how that affects the noise. If its still to much then I'll most likely replace the backboxes with Milltek or Weldfab setup.

It would be fine if they were valved but the car is now put away for the winter so shall see what I get up to with it.

Its been like 6 months, I should probably update this

I took the Tubi exhaust off, driving it regular was a chore, to give an idea of why, this is what it sounded like

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnmQhulLxSU

So, put it the standard exhaust back on and to my surprise the car drives instantly better, much smoother acceleration, no jerky gearchanges and I dont instantly look like a bender

Fitted a nice shiney nob off an A1 sport and changed the headunit to a Pioneer as the original unit is pre-historic

Fitted my plate, had all 4 wheels refurbed plus the spare as well as 8mm spacers upfront and 10mm on the rear but not photos of this. I didnt think it would make a difference but it certainly fills out the arches alot better.

Apart from that I've just washed it and left it sitting in the garage. Noticed yesterday the tax and MOT have expired, so in a year i've completed a grand total of just under 1500 miles

So thats it really, I dunno what I want to do with it. Probably wait till summer when I start looking at TVR's as usual....

    Red looks shit imo.

This is Daytona Grey. Looks lovely.

Sepang blue is a nice colour for the RS4 too
  97. #97
I drove past a blue one yesterday and it did nothing for me.

Black, Grey or Red is the way to go! yours looked mint in black Ross but after my Black BMW i really cant be arsed to keep it clean. Look amazing when polished up but maintaining it is a ball ache.

Did either of you have any suspension issues?
  98. #98
I did. Had two shocks replaced by audi. Some people go coilovers but it's always a compromise. The RS4 DRC is fucking epic when well maintained. Once the car is on V3 DRC shocks, they wont fail. The V2's will go eventually unfortunately.

And yeah, black is a bastard to keep clean and looking nice, but when it's shiny... it's shiny!
  99. #99
When mine was las in Audi they commented on how fresh the DRC hoses/ pipes looked, its not had any problems in the year I've had it.

It's due a service now, I'm reluctant to bother since its only done 1800 miles since its last service but the anoraks will moan if the servie schedule is not maintained come time to sell.

It also needs the front end blown over, knowing the stone chips are there is killing my OCD.

I didn't buy it for it's road handling skills! I do a maximum of 3000 miles a year, I just want something I can jump in and drive when taking my daughter to school/ swimming/ dancing etc whilst carrying all her crap and my ugly bulldog. This is the second range rover and fifth 4x4 I've had, I don't have the want/ desire to go balls out at 100mph every time I jump in a car anymore.

It was a toss up between this and a new shape landcruiser, the RR won only because I have a landcruiser for work

Here it is in rural surroundings, its off for a remap soon which should see just over 300 bhp and 550 lbs torque, similar power to the RS4....

Grills replaced and LED DRL's with tinted surrounds fitted, tempted by 22''s but the ride sucks so not much else is planned
