Is your car a mk1 or mk2 saxo?
  7. #7
Are these anything do with switcH
  8. #8
    2002 mk 2 I think
  9. #9
No idea on the two pics, but pretty sure the ecu controls the fan.
  10. #10
These relays control the fan yes, they need to be working, make sure they both works and are not damaged.

Mines stopped working and its the yellow box youve got a picture of.

Mine corroded so the pins snapped in the plug.

    check that.

    Anyway of testing relays?

How many pins has the relay got?
    If it has 4 pins
You will have a live feed to the relay.
A signal wire to activate the relay.
A live to the fan motor that will only be live when the signal wire is activated.
    And an earth.
I can't tell you exactly whats what as i don't have my wiring diagrams handy.
  14. #14
Prob 5 pin this i know the click for live then check continuity yea?

when you hear the click you should get continuity across the live poles.
    You can also
put a jumper wire across the live pole to operate the fans.
check continuity from the earth pole to ground on the chassis.
check the live feed pole to the relay has voltage.
when up to temperature and the fan should trip check the signal wire for voltage.
on the bosch management system if the temperature guage coolant sensors fails the red light comes on on the dash and trips the fan by default.
i'm not sure about the vts as it uses maneti marrelli managment but it may be possible to trip the fan by disconecting the temp guage sensor with the inigition on and the engine off if this is unpluged and the red light is on the fan should operate.
are vts fans duel or single speed?

I dont know if dual, has the 2 relays on so maybe, whats the black relay for? Is it correct ecu turns fan on? Ive got lexia software should i check function with that?

I'm not sure about the black relay without looking at the wiring diagrams.
I would put money on the ecu operating the fan.
Lexia would be a good idea and if it has bi directional capabilities it could solve the issue.

I will update, if the function is there and fan does not come on what am I looking at?

If the temp sensors are faulty it should throw a code.
If the relay clicks the signal wire is good.
If the relay clicks and the fan does not operate check the live feed to the relay the relay ground and the wiring to the motors.
Ideally you could do with a wiring diagram to establish the function of the black relay and any other conponents associated with the cooling circuit i wont have mine until tomorrow.

I've not owned a vts so wouldn't be sure myself but isn't the fan switch usually by the thermostat housing?

That will be one of the coolant temperature sensors
one should be wired to the ecu the other normaly the one in the cylinder head is wired to the temperature guage.
The wiring diagrams in the haynes manuals are the same for the vtr and vts they call them typical wiring diagrams.

I've just found this so not sure if this will be any good seeing it's the Haynes diagram but may help with testing wires, it's for 99 plate cars

Seeing I seem to be shit at getting the diagram linked, I found it on the piston heads site
    http://www.pistonheads.com/Gassing/t...=saxo+vtr+help

No idea how to delete my previous posts that won't be much help

How do i find out what engine code it is? 1.6 L NFX MM48P? B0sch?
  26. #26
Lexia is comunication with fan, fan comes on when i test, could it be temp sensor?
  27. #27
Also, the measurements of coolant temp sensor says 84.c would that be a fault on sensor if its remotely coming on?
  28. #28
IS THE TEMP SENSOR A 3 pin sensor but only pins 1 and 2 used? what should ohms reading be... the thermostat test, should it be kettle boiled water or boiling in a pan water?

Sensor values vary from car to car have a look at these values for a 306 and look for a simlar pattern at the different temperatures http://www.rac.co.uk/forum/sho:hug:w...A39-multimeter
When you messured the temp at 84° what was temp guauge in the car reading?
  30. #30
Temp gauge off and engine cold

    That link don't work

Is it a 3 pin one with 2 pins used? green connector because I can see 2 but other I think is oil temp sensor

Take a reading of the sensor select ohms scale on your multimeter.
The sensor should have a high resistance when cold between 4000-40000 ohms.
These redings are taken from a 306 1.4 sensor.
    10° between 3530-4100 ohms
    20° between 2350-2650 ohms
    30° between 1585-1790 ohms
    40°between 1085-1230 ohms
    50°between 763-857 ohms
    60°between 540-615 ohms
    80°between 392-326 ohms
    90°between 215-245 ohms
    100°between 165-190 ohms
Different sensors will give different values but it's the pattern that is important i suspect your sensor will be showing a low resistance when cold between 200-400 ohms when it read a high resistance of 3000-4000+ ohms @ 10°.

There should be 2 coolant temp sensors
    1) is wired to the ecu
    2) is wired to the temp guage usually the screwed into the head.
You will know which one is fkd when you measure the resistance.
Disconect the battery unplug the sensors try the front one on the thermostat housing first it wont matter whether it is 2 or 3 pin as you can probe all the pins until you get a reading.

My reading is low, id say thats the problem, the other sensor is in the block must be oil sensor. Anyone know partnnumber of temp sensor?
