Hi, New here....

    Hello guys,
I've just registered on this forum, seems to be full of 106/saxo enthusiasts.
I am 17 years old, just passed my test (yesterday infact!) and just purchased a 2002 Saxo VTR in Red today! I am driving it home saturday morning, so excited!
I am an Engineer Apprentice and love cars and motorbikes! I have spent a couple of years playing with Aprilia RS's and have learnt so much from them. My father restored Vintage (1920's) cars too.

    Thats enough about me....

    Anyway, I have a few questions :

    1) It has done 82,000 miles, with little service history. I want to change the Cam Belt and possibly water pump. I see kits on ebay for around £35, this seem okay? I have seen some guides on here, looks do-able with some help from my father. Just out of interests, how much do garages charge to do this?

    2) Can anyone recommend a good quality back box, nothing overly loud, standard looking and nice sounding? Mine looks past its best, however no blowing currently.

    3) Recommended engine oil to use? I intend on changing it every 3000miles, this sound about right?

    Many thanks!

    Dan

Whats the insurance like on a VTR at 17 and a first time driver? Start a progress thread for it and get some pictures up.

In relation to your question, as above on the cambelt kit, get it from the motor factors. For the back box I'd recommend a Saxsport cutback system, can be picked up for around £100 used and sound great but not overly loud.

Finally I used 5w40 on my VTR which was very low millage but 10w40 is fine to.

    Hi mate,
The insurance is steep, £2450 third party fire and theft. Its the most basic insurance there is, but its better than nothing!

Saxsport systems look good! What about sportex? I like their 2.5" back box in terms of looks!

I'll do an oil change as soon as I get the car home, the cambelt will have to wait for a couple of weeks.

    Thanks!

Jesus christ, I wouldn't be paying that for a Saxo.

3k oil changes are a bit ott, unless you are tracking it, or lots of stop, start short journeys!

Use a good oil and leave longer intervals!

I wouldn't pay that go on your parents insurance (they insure it and you as a named driver)
