Oil filter relocation and oil cooler options

  1. #1
I remember browsing through some of the progress threads on here of members cars. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that there is an oil filter relocation kit for a vtr/vts. I'm wondering if anyone has any information on these?

I'm currently running a mk2 Vtr with the original 8 valve and want to fit an oil cooler as I plan to do some autosolo events and track days next year. Seen an number of oil coolers fitted to 16 valve engines but has anyone any idea where I can get a kit for the mk2 Vtr please?

    Muchos gracias

They're the same setup. Will work on both 8v and 16v.

Whatever you do, don't use a Mocal sandwich plate and mushroom. They're fucking shit.

Torques do some nice products you can use.

    Use something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Torques-Re...item5400302845

    With this:

(Do NOT order those without checking sizes as I just linked to the first I found).

think you might have confused him there Ross --
mocal oil cooler kit is fine --
you would only use the mushroom part, as you call it , if fitting remote oil filter assembly --not just fitting an oil cooler .

The thread IS titled "oil filter relocation"

i,m looking at what he actually says -and Idon,t get the impression he is wanting to fit a remote filter assembly ,but just a cooler -
you can do one without the other and as \i donmt seecany mention of turbo etc i cen,t see why he would want to move the filter assembly to another loction and make things more exensive and complicated--when oil cooler kit would do just fine --
maybe just our direferent intepretations of what he is looking for --you know me i look inbetween +behind the words alot of the time
the fact hea says mk2 makes me suspect a lstictype oil filter -not screw on type --so maybe he should make it like a mk1 first --then fit st oil cooler kit --that would be cheapest

My issue is regards the placement of the oil filter as standard on the mk2(next to the exhaust manifold). In the new year I am looking to start some Autotesting and get as many track days in as I can. Obviously Autotesting is short sharp bursts but the track days I'm looking at are open pit lane.

My philosophy has always been prevention is better than cure and I want to put some good cooling systems in place to avoid ruining the engine midway through a track day or Autotesting.

The car as it sits is completely standard and never been abused so I have a good platform to build on. The car drives faultlessly and pulls strong in every gear.

Rather than bolt a load of performance parts onto the car in one go then have to adapt my driving style and learn the new driving characteristics of the car I wish to steadily tailor the car to me.

With regards to the oil filter relocation/oil cooler I am open to honest guidance as I will be adapting the front bumper to channel cool air to the necessary area's. My theory is to keep the oil filter and cooler as far away from any heat radiance but, being my first time in Saxo ownership, I maybe wrong.

well until you move the cat to under the car as a mk1 then you can,t really move oil fiter simply .
once you have change to mk1 type ex system +cat etc then you can change to mk1 oil filter postion .

Unless your autotesting is on the sun it'll never get THAT warm with a front mounted cooler and the existing filter where it is

My advice is to start at the beginning again. Fit an accurate temperature gauge first then monitor your current temperatures. You dont want to overcool your oil.
