Ebay Gasket kits

Head gasket has gone on my 2001 1.1 Saxo. What are your opinions on these Ebay Headgasket kits.

Seems quite cheap but Eurocarparts are selling the headgasket alone for about 10-15 quid.

I might as well change tired gaskets and valve seals etc while im at it, will also be replacing the belt, water pump, tensioner etc while they are off.

    cheers for any input

Seems a bit overkill to me. Why disturb all those gaskets just to put new ones on? Just the head gasket and exhaust manifold gaskets will be disturbed when you take the head off

New bolts are a good idea, although I believe they can be re-used once if in good condition.

Valve seals aren't needed, you'll need to dismantle the valves to fit them and you'll need special tools.

It's a decent price though just use the head/ exhaust gaskets and head bolts and put the rest in a drawer.

Aren't 'Desires' Mk2 saxos with the HFX engine (plastic manifold)?, this set is for a Mk 1 engine single point injection.

I just picked the first example I saw on ebay, they are all fairly similar in price though

Its just cheaper to buy this then buy gaskets+bolts etc off Eurocarparts

You're right il end up leaving the valves and sticking the spares in a drawer for when I need them.

Remember to get the head skimmed

    I disagree
If going as far as lifitng head on a car which is 13years old ,then valve stem seals is a good idea as they get hard with age ,yes new belt +h/bolts
pump- not if its not leaking -most problems with pumps is caused by bad belt tensioning and straining the bearings in pump

100% agree^ valve seals, do them! I thought my head gasket had gone, as it had trouble starting up etc, turned out to be valve seals! Was losing compression through the valve stem seals. Do head gasket too, get head skimmed, rocker gasket, change cambelt, tensioner and water pump. Maybe give it service too, new plugs, air filter, obviously you'll have to change oil so may as well do oil filter too.
Your engine will be sweet as a nut afterwards!

Cheers guys, just really want to know if anyone has had problems with ebay headgaskets, really don't want to waste time buying one and fitting if it is going to be crap

Turns out my dad has valve compressors etc plus a compression tester which will make life a little easier.
