Cams??

  1. #1
hey guys? Apart from turbo the only other engine mod im thinking of doing depending on money (lol) im wanting to do a cam sharft upgrade. I have looked through some old threads regarding cams but nothing is really said regarding how or what to do. I dont mean step by step instructions but how difficult it is to change.

I am looking getting the Newman Fast road cam (silvertop) - thoughts??

I dont go to the track i just want a little more hp. What kind of steps is it to change the cam and also would you guys advice buying e.g pullys, belts etc?

    cheers,

Nothing wrong with OEM spec' belts, Dayton or Gates I think are the norm.
No point in changing the pulleys, maybe the crank pulley the alternator runs off, if the rubber is worn.

Cams must have been covered 7 million times on here.

fit cams or fit a turbo. You dont need an aggressive cam lobe design when running a turbo

If going just cam, I'd recommend the Newman Ph3 cam. It's what I have although I'm going turbo soon but it's gonna be a big build!
Id also recommend an adjustable pulley for sure, yeah it's lightened also but that's not the main point, the adjustability is the key bit. You'll need to fine tweak the cam angle once fitted so adjustable pulley is a must really!
Also lightened crank pulley would help too, would let the engine spin up quicker etc

Can someone explain where exactly where the cam is because my mates seems to think it's under the rocker cover but I thought header comes off and it's there?

You do have to take the head off to access it to change it but yes it's in the head itself ie under the rocker cover. It rocker cover on top, then the baffle plate underneath, followed by the rocker arms, then the camshaft.
If you're not sure yourself where the camshaft is, I wouldn't go changing it as it can easily ruin your valves/Pistons if you get it wrong

What do you guys think to the Ina cambelt kit?

Just buy a well regarded brand. I've never been a fan of unknown tensioners and cambelts
