Quick question about exhaust

  1. #1
    Hi,

Just wanting some knowledge about exhausts, been looking on this forum and people seem to know their stuff!

Im looking to change my exhaust for better performance and a nicer sound, my question is will I have to change my catalytic converter to a sports one as well as my manifold and back box etc?

Is there any way of bypassing the catalytic converter and not have problems with MOT?

Ive read about a de-cat pipe...not too sure what that is though...
    Cheers!!

Yes there is a way. Buy a decat and swap back for MOT time. Other way is to get a full race system and then keep the original in your shed for 364 days of the year.

Thanks matey, so is it not worth keeping the original catalytic converter and upgrading the rest of the system? (Just thinking of saving me having to change it for MOT time Im a lazy b*****d haha)

If its best to get the full system, any recommendations?

    Thanks again

yes and no. If you are chasing power then the oe cat is probably the most restrictive part of your exhaust system. If you want a little gain, but staying road legal fit a cat back. You will get the sporty sound whatever.

Fit a cat back system first, then if you still want more then buy a 4-2-1 manifold and decat pipe. Won't pass an MOT unless you get friendly with the tester.
