light on dashboard - engine management?

    I have a 2001 Saxo Furo 1.3

For a few months now I have had the light circled in the picture periodically flashing or coming on. There seemed to be no pattern to this as someday's it would come on and other days not. The only thing I noticed was that it was more inclined to flash or come on if the car had been sitting for a few days.

Over time the light seemed to come on more and more and now it is on permanently.

One thing I notice when the light is on the car seems to be stuttering. Any idea what this is? Is it the engine management light? What do you think is going on?

It's EML, flashing means intermittent fault, when it's on means permanent fault. Get it diagnosed.

Eml. Get a scanner on it mate. Could be anything

Thanks for confirming this. What do I need to test this? Can I hook a laptop up to it with some software or do I need something else?

If possible I would like to sort this myself as it's not really worth paying a garage to do this. The thing is the car only cost me £150 a year ago, so it does not owe me much.

Ask politely and offer 10 quid for the coffeebox at the Citroen garage, then they can test it for you.

If you buy the tester yourself, you'll hit 50£+ before you got what you need.

Wrong, you can get diagnostic tools from £10.

I got a cable + software for my laptop, £5

Do you have a link for the cable and software? Also are there any guides around showing what to do?

I disconnected the battery overnight. In the morning when I reconnected the battery, the dashboard light flashed for about 5 minutes and then it went off. It 's now been 5 days and it has not come on once. The car is no longer stuttering and seems to drive normal. Just wondered what everyones thoughts were on this?
