16v ITB s1 rallye automark

  1. #1
Has anyone used automark in stokesley recently to map there 106 or saxo because iv got my 16v s1 rallye booked in with the following spec.

Sandy brown/satchel gsxr 1000 throttle bodies
    Newman ph3 cams
Sandy brown ported and polished head
    Clio 182 injectors
    Dta s40 pro ecu
    Rebuilt bottom end
    S1 rallye box

What power do people think this set up is likely to produce and what can the rev limit be raised to safely.
From past experience does anyone know how accurate the RR is ?

    Thank in advanced Dan.

Morning Dan, take RR figures with a pinch of salt.....

If its mapped correctly (which it will be going to automark) then its all about the area under the line being as large as possible; you will probably see about 160bhp as long as you have a decent manifold and exhaust.

As for rev limiter 7800RPM is more than enough

Thanks mate ye that's a figure I'm roughly looking for, like you say it's not about the peak power but the torque and power curve it makes. I'm sure it'll put a smile on my face anyway. I don't think he normally maps many 106/saxo, for what I could see he works usually on ford and Audi rally hill climb, sprint type cars.

He's mapped a race 106 that's on the rallye register dude. I've heard a lot of good things about him.

He mapped the standard ECU of my cammed VTS a couple of years ago and I wasn't impressed with the results. If I had my money again I would've gone to Chipwizards.

I imagine quite a few places will map DTA. TDI North in Warrington would be my choice. Maybe even Evotune for somewhere closer to home.

Have you got a link for it, I wouldn't mind having a read and a look at the spec.

What power did it make on his rollers and what was your spec ? When you say weren't impressed was it lacking throttle response, trimming , rev limit etc ?

Newman PH3s, Raceland 4-2-1, Piper exhaust with decat, K&N Gen2 - 148bhp at the fly. He mapped one a few weeks prior with Catcam 743s which made 161bhp on his rollers - obviously I know this will be closer to 150 in reality, but he couldn't explain why there was a 13bhp difference between cars. Both were 3 plug ECU type too.

I had a standard VTS final drive back then and Clio 182s had no trouble at all pulling away from me. It's a bit more urgent since switching to a 1.4 XSI final drive and lightened flywheel, but I still feel like the engine has more to give had it been setup right. The limiter is set to 7650 RPM but I rarely go up to it as the car feels flat from 7000 - the power tails off too early imo.

Not trying to slate Mark or his work, I just feel he hasn't done a very good job of mine and left too many questions unanswered... to the point I've even considered having it checked over by Chipwizards. Mark also kept telling me to run high octane fuel and I couldn't understand why - the car was mapped on 95 RON and I was totally happy with that.

I'm quite suprised by that Liam, are you saying that post mods and map, at a supposed 148bhp, you were finding clio's etc easily pulled away?

Yep. Rolling from 60 I repeatedly got my arse handed to me by my brothers 182 Cup with cat back. I was surprised too as many assume the fabled cammed VTS blows them out the water.

As said in my other post, that was a few years ago and swapping the final drive out for a shorter one made a huge difference to acceleration. I remember you saying you'd seen my Cadwell videos - I would say my car is a tad quicker than a Clio now?

It is always in the back of my mind that the engine potentially has more to give though... which is annoying, because I paid a lot of money to have it mapped and I find it hard to justify pulling out £400 for Chipwizards to right a potential wrong.

Hmm defiantly gives me something to think about hearing that Liam, I don't mind getting the car transported for a reputable tuner to work there magic on it, he seems to think the set up will only make 155 bhp in my option seems a little low. I asked him about a raised rev limit and what he would take it too. I was under the impression people usually go to 7800rpm but he thought that was a little high and assured me 7650 rpm would be enough to get a good power and torque curve. Would the difference in rpm effect the figure with not much power being created so far up the rev range ?

    I'm using 743, 2" decat, simota intake filter and 4-2-1 manifold after a remap i got 158.3hp

To answer the last question, the only way to know is to look at the curve, tho i doubt it will change anything as the cans don't produce the max power that later.

708/743 both deliver at 7200-7400rpm, raising the limit will only help to be in the powerband doing shifts, but again you need to look at the graph
