Is it right I can fill the gearbox with new oil through the gearbox breather (if so where is it situated any pictures) so I don't have to piss about filling from the side of the gearbox with a tube. Saxo vtr by the way 2002.

#2Remove the airbox and its kind of under the battery tray.

#3Just roof the car, simple!

#4I thought about doing this a few weeks ago when i did my driveshaft, so i measured the oil that came out to put back in so i didnt over fill it. But in the end it was less messing to pull the arch liner back and fill it through the filler plug took 10 minutes.

#5Nice one cheers bud.

#8I now have the passenger side wheel arch off and have taken a couple of photos attached below. On the photos, I presume the filler plug is the top circle I have drawn and the bottom circle the drain?
As for the breather pipe which people suggest filling from, I can't seem to find it. When looking for this, you will see I have taken two pictures, one from underneath the car and one from the top where the battery is - however I don't think it's on these pictures? Think I may just squirt the oil into the filler plug with a pressurised garden sprayer.

#9Hi mate, yes you have circled the correct filler and drain plugs and that is how you are "supposed" to do it however most people, me included fill via the breather
In this picture its the black round thing next to the reverse light switch, there will be a black round cap on it that you need to pull off

If you fill via this remove the upper level plug that you circled so the gear oil goes in quickly and you can check the level is right (it'll flow out when doing so).
Also only use a 75w80 oil nothing else2 users thanked this post: , -
#11The thing is, when you jack up one side of the the car, it's no longer LEVEL.
So using the filler/level plug is totally useless. It'll only be accurate on a ramp in a garage.
This is why it's preferred to use the breather to fill using a calculated amount.
If you change a driveshaft, refill with no more than 2.4 litres.
easy. -
#12breather is simplist way
