206 engine in a saxo/106

    Howdy, I have some demons in my mind that I need to exhaust!

    currently running 168bhp bodied 16v engine in the Saxo but considering chucking in a 206gti engine.. with a new inlet the jenveys and obviously the DTA would be usable...

    I was under the impression the s1 rallye box i have might bolt on but maybe not (which would be a pain as its got a quaiffe inside)

    It doesn't appear to be a common conversion (I cant find any unless I'm being blind)

    talk to me?!

    Yeah itll go, I sized up my AX bay for one. Tis a fair bit of work though, and the gearbox wont fit straight on. Apparently the EW engines are pretty decent in terms of being tunable, but its not a simple job to get it in in the first place unless youre pretty handy with fabricating.

    only real advantge would be extra torque of 2.0 engine --would be simpler to drop some civilised boost on it and save alot of problems --its going to be alot heavier at front os handling will not be as good --
    if you like fabrication --then put the right 2.0 engine init --honda type r 200+ std --few n/a mods 240 -- with t/bodies 260
    add s/c --you looking at 350 no internal --more if you wnt to go inside and-- rev to the moon
    get complete front subframe =steering etc and cut =shut legs to fit it --bullet proof even the 1.6 honda lump can be easily tuned to 200 +

    but a yes lot of fab work

    ma box would shit itself at the sight of an ew engine, let slne if you tried to bolt it on.

    only an ew specific be4 box will fit off the shelf, BIC had an ew touring car in his "maxi, with a Sadev st75-14

    wouldn,t fit anyway --clutch too big --needs BE with any 2.0 engine--torque kill s gear boxs
    ew is a crap engine anyway and not many tuning parts

    I'm not sure given a blank canvas I'd put in a Peugeot engine either.

    You mean theres no cheap bolt on tat you can make profit on.

    there's plenty out there that can make stuff for them and its a very good base engine.

    all you need is rods pistons and cams, good springs for the vslves, bolt it together properly add a proper set of manifolds and youll get high 200's and very good torque.

    you never change an rsehole all the time --if you knew half as muchas you think you would know the internal build of the ew isvery weak and not a good engine to tune --and is poor results for money spent
    ido not keep any bits for that engine after having problemd years ago with the weakness in the basic design --something you will have no competence to judge --so just go way and stop being a welsh man

    But when you have to do the same fabrication work to fit as with any other engine the opportunity to fit something designed from the outset as a high performance engine should be taken. The cost of tuning parts should also be considered. You could spend a lot of money on getting an EW engine to over 200bhp, when a K20 engine would make that out the box with a few bolt on mods for under £2k
    Admittedly you can buy a 206 gti for £300-£500, but its not going to be pocket change to tune.

    Plus you don't need to use all the Honda subframe, no need to complicate things

    What do you think the weaknesses with the basic design are? I'm not having a dig, I'm genuinely interested

    conrods to thin -big ends narrower , crank like rubber , pistons weak not fuly floating made for emissions not power
    too big physically

    Nothing insurmountable, swap to xu crank, get decent rods and pistons.

    even the xu crank is not that strong -- seen many bent ones caused by downchanging at too high rpm --piston valve clearnac is always small due to head design
    you need to fit diesel crank -
    -but after all that money --why not just start with a bullet proof unit tha will always give more power anyway--not as though its a job without complications what ever you do
